“Adventure!” I was impressed with the shifting scenery, nature itself, the feel of being comforted and calmed! I cannot recommend this enough, especially for those where life never slows down. This was a NEEDED break and a reminder electronics are not a life or death situation. With that being said yes you do have internet access-lol!

“No need to even leave the house!” This place took some major work! Aside from the awesome location and picturesque scenery, the inside of this house might be my favorite part about the property. There are more than enough places to sleep and the place is big enough that you don't get crowded if you bring a lot of people. There is a huge dining room table and fully stocked, top of the line kitchen, and wonderful wood stove to add to the ambience. This is a great place to get away, with all of the luxuries you'd expect from a city hotel room. If I win the lottery tomorrow, I'm buying this place!

About Jasper, Arkansas

Jasper is located within Newton County and has a tiny population of just under 500 according to the 2010 census. Situated next to the river Buffalo, this destination is the definition of natural beauty. Here, you'll get a taste of rural living and a taste of the outdoors, with most tourist activity based around these interests.

Jasper was a popular tourist destination in the 1960s, when a theme park named 'Dogpatch' based on 'Lil Abner' comics opened. However, since the closing of the park in the 1990s, tourism hit an all-time low.

Luckily, Jasper is now back on track thanks to elk being brought into the community on the Buffalo river valley. They can easily be spotted in the early mornings or at dusk. The destination has also become known for its motorcycling tourist spot, which welcomes thousands of visitors each year.

What to do in Jasper, Arkansas

The area is renowned for its vast selection of outdoor opportunities such as hiking, rock-climbing, hunting, mountain-biking and horseback riding. If you're a keen adventurer, Jasper is the perfect destination to try a whole heap of new activities—especially if you're a thrill seeker looking for a challenge.

There's no doubt you'll catch a glimpse or two of the famous Buffalo river at some point in your stay, so why not take a relaxing boat trip? Pick up a pair of oars and go take your very own trip down the river to really appreciate the beauty of the surroundings in Jasper.

Jasper is also full of great shops—with all kinds of weird and wonderful gifts and souvenirs. Browse through antiques and handmade items from local artists, to fascinating bits of 'junk' where you may end up finding your own piece of treasure to take away with you.

Top travel tips for Jasper

To get to Jasper, you may wish to take a cut-through to really witness some spectacular views by taking the Arkansas Scenic Byway 7, which runs from North to South. You'll find that Russellville is 60 miles away, as well as Branson, if you're looking to take a road trip.

Due to the town being so small, there aren't many public buses, so it would be advisable to travel in your own car or hire one within the area.

If you're looking to gain more information on the elk, pay a visit to the Elk Education Center located in Ponca to find out more.
