Frannie's Cabin on the Buffalo

Leave behind a complex, hectic lifestyle and enjoy a simpler existence at one of the finest cabin rentals in Arkansas.

Sitting on ten private acres and bumping up to the Buffalo River National Park, my cabin has the illusion of being on thousands of acres. This secluded setting lends itself to relaxing, and exploring.

One of the first things you will notice will be the wonderful quietness around. You will be miles from town so there will be no cars, no trucks or trains to be heard. Just crickets chirping, cows mooing, bullfrogs ribbeting.

My cabin is located 8 miles east of Ponca and 6 miles west of Jasper. It's in the center of Newton County. ...Read more

Additional Location Information

My Buffalo Cabin is located halfway between Ponca and Jasper off highway 74. Ponca is 10 minutes to the west and that is where you want to go if you plan to float the Buffalo River. Two fabulous outfitters are there and they can equip you with canoes or kayaks.

Jasper is 10 minutes to the east of the cabin. After you float the Buffalo you'll have a fun time exploring the quaint , rural village of Jasper.

Located in Jasper is the Ozark Cafe, which recently won an award for being chosen by a New York publication as one of the best fifty restaurants in the nation. My husband, Jim, says their cheeseburgers are his all-time favorite. I like their chicken fried steak and garlic mashed potatoes. Save some time after you eat to browse Emma's Museum of Junk.

You won't go hungry here. My cabin is 5 minutes down the road from the Low Gap Cafe, which I highly recommend for their frog legs. However, my favorite is his chicken marsala.

Within walking distance is the Eye of the Needle. It is a rock formation on the Indian Creek Trail, the most scenic trail in Newton County. It's a challenging trail and meant only for the experienced hiker. There are several easier trails nearby to tackle first, such as the Lost Valley Trail, which is the most popular trail in Arkansas and Hawksbill Crag, the most photographed natural site in Arkansas is not far away.

Ziplining at Horseshoe Canyon is 7 minutes down the road. There is also ziplining available at the Buffalo Outdoor Center in Ponca.

Sam's Throne draws people from all over the nation to climb it's rock walls.

The swimming holes in the summer months are so popular there has even been a book written about them. They are special because of the cool underground springs that flow into them to make them refreshing. Close by is a swimming hole at Steel Creek Landing and two others at Pruitt Landing.
