This ideal family cottage is located on a working farm and is a great way to introduce the family to farming life, explore the farm, meet the lambs, watch the birds and other wildlife by one of the many ponds or simply relax in the open countryside. Located only a few miles from Jedburgh with shops, bars and restaurants for the days you want a change of scene.
Jedburgh is the historic gateway to Scotland and is only 10 miles from the border of England, located in the south eastern corner. The magnificent 12th century Augustinian Abbey dominates the town and there are a numerous restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, and the English cities of Carlisle and Newcastle are all within an hours drive where shops, theatres and fine dining can all be enjoyed.
The cottages (Owl Cottage and Wild Rose Cottage) are located on a working farm which consists of 1100 acres and home to 2000 sheep. Nestled below The Cheviots just south of Jedburgh, the cottages are in an area of peace and tranquillity surrounded by rolling countryside, part of the farm is in a conservation scheme to encourage ground nestling birds, explore on foot and meander up to one of the many ponds to watch the local wildlife including buzzards, deer and badgers or walk one of the farm trails.
Owl Cottage has a wood burning fire, is furnished and equipped to a high standard with oil central heating and comprises:
* Lounge with wood burning fire, TV, DVD, video, CD players and a selection for books, games, videos and DVD’s.
* Dining/kitchen/breakfast room with electric cooker, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave.

Some lovely home-made chocolate muffins were waiting for us when we arrived. The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. When we reported that the tumble dryer did not work, they arranged for an electrician to come and it was fixed within 48 hours.
The house is comfortable with plenty of sofas and a good power-shower. The wi-fi internet access was good enough for video streaming. All the household equipment we needed was supplied. We were allowed to turn on the heating for extra hours while we were in the house.
From the three bedrooms there is a wide view of the distant Cheviot hills as well as the closer attractive hills and woodland. The house is a few minutes drive from the a68, so locations in Scotland and Northumberland are easily accessible. It is only a few miles from Jedburgh with its impressive abbey; there are adequate food and souvenir shops there as well as a choice of restaurants. The Jedburgh tourist office is helpful. There are a number of shortish walks in the district where you can climb up for 360 degree views of the Borders region. The house is next to the owners' farm, Bairnkine, which has its own waymarked trails.
Best point about the house: the views from the front. Least good point: only a small rear garden lacking views.

We felt really at home in Owl Cottage. It's very cosy and comfortable. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with stunning views. The hosts Lucy and Matt were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.
Minimum stay and check-in day vary by time of the year.
All prices include all taxes, gas, electric and bed linen. Please check property description to see if towels, logs, coal and cots are included free of charge or at a supplement. If a pet friendly property, the charge is £20 per pet per week/part week. Please telephone or email us for short break availability and prices.
