Rattler Ranch: 3 mid-century rustic bungalows on 5 acres with boulder and panoramic desert views, 2 miles from "downtown" Joshua Tree, and the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. It is also possible to hike directly into the Park down the dirt road, 1/2 mile from the bungalows. This is a private and quiet retreat, with few neighbors, but conveniently close to town and the Park.
The Casita de lat Senorita is modern/rustic, with a queen bed in the bedroom, queen sofabed in one sitting room, and a twin bed/daybed in the 2nd sitting room. It also contains a fullsize kitchen. There is a wood-burning stove in one sit room, and private fenced patio with burn barrel, grill, table & chairs.
The 2nd bungalow is the Mustang - see it's own FlipKey listing for full description and photos.
The 3rd house on the property is currently rented by the month, but within a year, will also be available to rent short term.
Rattler Ranch is beautifully landscaped with ocotillo, palm trees, cactus, desert willows, elms, sycamores, smoke trees, desert pines, and many other desert plants.
The property abounds with wildlife - jackrabbits and cottontails, roadrunners, desert tortoises, coyotes, lizards, and dozens of quails that spend their nights roosting in the palm trees.
World famous Joshua Tree National Park is nearby (2 miles to the Visitor's Center), for rock climbing, hiking, and touring. The town of Joshua Tree has several eating establishments, a health food store, Saturday morning farmers' market, visitor's center for the Park, outdoor equipment & climbing suppliers, art galleries, a saloon, and gift shops.
In the nearby town of Yucca Valley you will find a cinema, more restaurants, and antique shopping. The Twentynine Palms Inn has an excellent poolside restaurant on a desert oasis, 20 min. away from Rattler Ranch. Also worth visiting is historic old west Pioneertown, and Pappy and Harriet's Saloon, for fine barbecue eating, and great live music.
Joshua Tree also has 2 music festivals, held over a three-day period every May and October - the Joshua Tree Music Festival, and the Joshua Tree Roots Music Festival. The last 2 weekends in October feature a studio tour of local artists. And, of course, the springtime wildflower bloom is very popular. So check them all out, and stay at Rattler Ranch.

Otherwordly.. Rattler ranch, for me , is heaven...It embodies what Joshua Tree is all about. I have been staying there since 2006. sometime 2 to 4 times a year; solo and with my significant other. Anytime of the year is perfect...! It's a bit life changing!
Very convenient to the park and town , yet enough off the path to promote serenity and solitude! If you're a writer, musician, visual artist or a lover of this journey, you've gotta spend some time there! Diane is a gracious host! And you'll love the rise and set of the Sun and Moon.

I have been back here many times now, having first booked for just one expedient night on the way to Vegas from la about five years ago on the advice of a musician pal (there is a strong art and music scene here). Since then I have been back five or six times for proper r and r. It already feels too long since I was there but I try to carry a souvenir scrap of that Joshua Tree blue sky and Diane Best's warm welcome in my wallet at all times to revive my heart when spirits flag in a less magical part of the world. She has remained true to all the simplicity and purity of the place but managed to make the guest houses supremely modern and comfortable at the same time, a true talent. Diane used to have a catering business in town so if you are lucky enough to sample her cooking then well done. She is also generous with her knowledge of not just Joshua Tree but most every highway, byway and canyon for states around. Make sure to visit Pappy & Harriet's bar up in Pioneer Town.

Fabulous retreat-like setting. Ideal for individuals desiring a dessert getaway, or families wanring likewise. Private, scenic, restful, comfortable, and clean. Kitchen area allows for cooking and eating in. Backporch on Mustang, where I stayed, looks out onto a panaramic dessert view that is simply stunning. Has the feel of being right in nature, as if you are actually capmping. Diane ensures that privacy, and quiet retreat-like setting is preserved. I highly recommend a stay of any length.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Rattler Ranch Cabins during Mother's Day weekend. It was such a treat to enjoy the total serenity and privacy of the cabin. The owner of the Rattler is a fine artist and the creative touches in the cabins is very much in evidence. The decor is "Western Eclectic" and the cabins are immaculate. Many of the owner's own artwork graces the walls of the cabins. I would recommend without reservation a restful stay at Rattler Ranch Cabins for anyone looking for peace and tranquility.

Rattler Ranch is our first choice when we visit Joshua Tree. Our family has stayed here numerous times over the past five years and it has become a home away from home. This is a great place to relax and revive, as well as take in the sights. The cabins have everything you could need for a weekend getaway or long term stay. They are cozy, quiet, clean, and convenient to the national park and all desert attractions!! Not to mention the owner is awesome, who really knows the area and how to make her guests feel at home! We can't recommend this place enough~It's Fabulous!!
