Kayaks and Bikes included—Secluded Garden Cottages—Great Location—One Block from Beach—An Oasis of Calm.
Why stay at Fern Grotto Inn? The reasons are as numerous as our glowing guest reviews. In fact, Fern Grotto Inn recently became the best-rated vacation rental on TripAdvisor and was featured in Lonely Planet—all thanks to our warm hospitality, prime location, and super cute plantation cottages.
For a little outdoor fun, check out our COMPLIMENTARY two-person KAYAK and “his and her” BIKES. The coastal bike trail is only one block from Fern Grotto Inn, and we're conveniently located right on the Wailua River and of course, there's plenty to do locally—we're only one block from the pristine swimming beach at Lydgate Park, and Kapaa's many stores and restaurants are just a few miles away.
The real attraction of Fern Grotto Inn is our secluded, vintage plantation cottages. Originally constructed in the 1940s and 1950s, our six cottages have been fully renovated with your comfort in mind while still retaining their authentic Hawaiian charm. We've outfitted each one with chic but cozy island-inspired decor.
Our cottages are surrounded by a lush, tropical garden, which, combined with the fact that our property is very quiet, creates the feeling that you're in old-time Hawaii, far from civilization. It's the perfect setting for your honeymoon or other romantic getaway.
One of the best parts about Fern Grotto Inn is our central location. Why limit yourself to Princeville or Poipu, when you can stay with us and easily drive to both the North and South Shores within 45 minutes?
Here's a brief description of our six cottages. A 13.42 percent tax will be applied to the rates quoted below. For more information and pictures, please visit our website.

We spent 7 wonderful days in the River Cottage at the Fern Grotto Inn. It was quiet (except the roosters in the morning!!!) and cozy. The place is centrally located right on the Waialua River and near Lydgate Park. The cottage was fully equipped (nice for breakfast) with lush gardens surrounding the cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fern Grotto Inn and will definitely plan on staying there again.

I was lucky enough to spend a week in Kauai with three of my twenty-something children and niece, and one year old grandaughter. We all felt very lucky to have found Fern Grotto Inn to stay in.
Some of our group surfed daily and we all enjoyed the snorkeling, hiking and sight-seeing from this central location. We were very happy with the beautiful seclusion of the cottages. Paul and his family were so gracious and very helpful with all our questions about things to do, places to shop, where to buy tickets etc.
We had a chance to stay in three of the four cottages during the week and all were immaculate, beautifully furnished and self-contained.We especially loved the big Ohana house with its high ceilings, lovely decor and gorgeous plantation style lawn out front. Each bedroom had its own bath and the huge kitchen had plenty of room for us all to meet and have meals together. The wonderful beds were five star.
The beach is a short drive, but walk across a (busy) street, and the ocean and its pounding surf is right there. This is not a hotel for night -life people. It is very family oriented and quiet. Nothing disturbs your sleep, even with the windows wide open all night, except for an occasional rooster.
Fern Grotto Inn is a wonderful value for the money, scrupulously clean and miraculously secluded. Kapaa is a great central location to get to activites and sight-seeing easily. Believe me, the life-style there made me want to pack up and move to Kauai in a heartbeat.

This was my 5th vacation in Kauai. The first 3 times I stayed in a expensive resort. I enjoyed my stay but because there is always something to do in Kauai the money spent for all the amenities of a resort were basically wasted as I was always out and about.
The 4th and 5th vacation to Kauai I stayed at the Fern Grotto Inn. Paul the owner was awesome. The grounds are beautiful, the vacation rentals are comfortable and charming. Fern Grotto Inn is a wonderful place to stay while in Kauai. Quiet, privacy and Hawaiian spirit is found at this rental. I plan on continuing to stay at Fern Grotto Inn as I feel I found a little secret getaway that always lends itself to a perfect vacation.

This was our first trip to Kauai, so we wanted to stay somewhere that would give us relatively easy access to all parts of the island. The Fern Grotto Inn is a quick jump from the airport, super clean, and included all the necessary little gizmos for doing up your own food.
It was very easy to set up the reservation, and once we got there we didn't need to worry about a lengthy (or any!) check-in process. This is nice when you're pooped from travel and just want a little quiet time and privacy.
Beautiful tiled shower, comfy bed, clean everything, minimal rooster noise...
