“A Haven of Peace in a crazy world” I have been going to Lamu for the past 8 years and last year discovered Forodhani House. In its perfect setting it is the ideal place to spend a holiday. The staff who welcome you are warm and full of attention while being discrete. The people in Shela are the friendliest I have met and I have travelled a lot. I am going back and can't wait to take my next sunset sail.

About Kenya

Considered by many to be the "Jewel of East Africa," Kenya is a treasured destination for travelers who appreciate its exquisite landscape. This includes some of the country's most beautiful beaches, majestic wildlife, and spectacular scenery. Coastal white sands and coral reefs are a great place for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy a host of activities, including swimming, snorkeling, and diving. The awe-inspiring Mount Kenya features a gorgeous summit and ideal surroundings for hiking, climbing, and cycling. Safaris are a huge draw for the country and there are numerous designated national parks and reserves to meet the demand. Culturally and historically, there are close to 40 different tribes that reside here. This means that you will be able to find an eclectic mix of arts, entertainment, dining, and shopping options throughout the area. While you are here, be sure to make time for a Kenya safari and a tour of one or several of Kenya's national parks.

Some of the attractions you will want to experience include:

  • The Mara Triangle: This area is part of one third of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, which is supervised by The Mara Conservancy. There are dedicated vehicles that assist visitors with animal sightings and there are strict park rules to shield surroundings from poachers to ensure safety.
  • The Mara River: This waterway runs through Kenya and Tanzania and the Serengeti/Masai Mara game reserves and is the focal point of the area wildlife's yearly migration path. These spectacular surroundings are breathtaking to behold and an ideal site for photo opportunities.
  • The Watamu Beach: Known for its wonderful white sand beach, the village of Watamu is situated on a coast that is part of the Watamu National Marine Park.
  • Lamu: Lamu, one of the oldest towns in Kenya, was settled by the Swahili close to 700 years ago. It is a great place to unwind and relax out in beautiful natural surroundings. Visitors can explore the islands, spend time near the ocean waves, or tour the old town.
  • Lake Nakuru: This alkaline waterway is a shallow lake famous for the large flamingo flocks that gravitate to it. In addition to the flamingos and other birds, the park also plays host to white rhino, warthogs, ostriches, lions, hippos, and giraffes.
  • Mount Kenya: This mountain has two main peaks: Batian and Nelion. Its slopes are covered in forest and the mountain is part of a bigger reserve that contains many rare animal species.

When visiting Kenya, the ideal way to feel at home away from home is to stay in a vacation rental. In a rental home you will find all the modern amenities you need in the spectacular surroundings of the area's unforgettable landscape. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, spend a night or two roughing it while partaking in some Kenya camping and then return to your luxurious rental to relax in style.

Turaco Cottage
A peacful oasis in the wilderness of the city.

Although we were not assigned the cottage that was shown in the ad, even after enquiring if this was an updated picture and told that it was; we were okay with the much older cottage that we stayed in. It was clean, recently renovated and had 2 bedrooms, a shower and kitchen with all the utensils needed to cook. No television, (we couldn't get it to work) no phone; gave us the needed 2 days of rest after a very busy month of mission work. The private beauty of the surrounding foliage made us feel that we were in the jungle, even though we were on the edge of Karen. I was intrigued with the other buildings in the compound and would love to know the history of the estate. ??? I know there is a story to be told! Beautiful birds and flowers, manicured shrubs lining the lane leading to the cottage, added to the ambiance. We even glimpsed a monkey strolling down the flagstone pathway. Would definitely return if the opportunity arises. Security was present and appreciated. Overall? It was a great mini vacation! Also--several places to visit and shop in the area, if you have transportation! They can help you with transportation service so that you can explore the area.see more
Kiloranhouse Cottage Master/Jaccuzzi
back in time, but with internet!

We stayed at Nairobi Cottage for 6 nights. Conveniently located for our business trip, close to workplaces we needed to visit. Calm en quiet in the hustle and bustle of Nairobi. The cottage takes you back 100 years. A survivor amidst modern apartments coming up. Excellent beds, a bathtub that might have hosted Karin Blixen herself, and do-it yourself breakfast in the morning. Adriel and Donated provided fresh fruit, milk and bread to toast. And the speed of the internet was excellent.see more
Apendalo-House: Far reaching 360° views
Joyful stay !

We visited Lamu in September and had a great holiday. Apendalo House was absolutely fantastic. We enjoyed to stay on the roof top terrace, nice views and a good breeze. The "natural air condition" works fantastic: by opening/closing windows and doors you adjust the breeze through the house. The wind finds its way into and out of the house. Perfect climate and fresh air guarantees a good sleep. Katana took good care of us and became a good friend, as he is very friendly and communicative. He arranged our very special dhow trip. We´ll remember for the rest of our lifes. We will come back to apendalo House hopefully next year.see more

Family reunion

We spent 7 days in Malindi, with family from Europe, Kenya and South Africa. It was relaxing and stress free. The arrangements pre trip were clear and simple, the staff at the house friendly, helpful and discrete. The house was always clean and tidy, and the food was delicious. The swimming pool got constant use!! Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you.see more

Wonderful Holiday

We stayed at your beautiful Villa for one week and we loved it. The ammenities were great and convienient. We were welcomed by Julius who had also baked a beautiful coconut cake for us. He was also ready to help with any queries or Problems we had. The Villa was clean thanks to Lucy who was always there to tidy up and make us feel at home. The beach is only a few minutes away which made it convienient when we had to go and have some sun and sand. We shall definately be back. Keep up the good work!!!see more
