You'll know you've found island heaven--the term heaven meaning transcendence or going beyond the ordinary--when you enter Casa Camilla. This two-bedroom, two-bathroom home located in the lovely Meadows neighborhood of Old Key West is extraordinary inside and out.
The outside rear half of the property is beautifully laid out with a private heated pool, a deck with retractable awnings, a cabana with wet bar, an open air shower, and tropical foliage in every direction. As you might expect on an island famous for spectacular weather, your stay at Casa Camilla will probably center here.
After a refreshing dip in the pool, you can enjoy rinsing off at the open air shower. (Please Note: The in ground spa portion of the pool in the pictures is not heated - it is always the same temperature as the pool.) Then move to one of the chaise lounges to stretch out or sit under the shade cabana. The latter might remind you of cabana structures found on old-Florida estates, where sharply dressed waiters served delicacies from polished silver platters. The one at Casa Camilla provides a perfect area for entertaining or for savoring a meal barbequed on the grill that's close by. Even if there's a brief tropical shower, the cabana offers plenty of cover for you to sit back and enjoy the sight and sound of raindrops splashing in the pool.
While the pool area is totally delightful, there's plenty to appreciate inside Casa Camilla too. Entering from the front porch, you find yourself in the living room. One of the first things you notice is the highly polished hardwood floors that give a warm glow to the whole room. An area rug defines the L-shaped conversation area that offers cushioned seating for six. Use the dark wood sea chest for your coffee table or your ottoman. Across the room, a dark wood hutch conceals the TV until you're ready to watch a favorite show or movie. Above the white brick fireplace hangs a framed limited edition print of fish swirling through underwater continents. This art work and other decorative blue and white touches coordinate the look not only of the living room but of the whole house.
Windows fill almost every foot of available wall space to bring the beauty and light of the Southernmost City right into your living and dining rooms. Centered in the dining room is a round table with four chairs. The perimeter of this room includes a sideboard with drawers and wine rack. A bookcase adds interest and a rainbow of color in book spines and found objects such as shells.
The correct words for the newly remodeled kitchen are beauty and convenience. Copious granite counter space and all the appliances you're used to are here and ready for use. Maybe make pancakes for breakfast and eat them at the breakfast nook, which looks out glass doors to the delightful deck and pool.
Completing the living space are two bedrooms and two full baths. The master suite features a queen bed piled with fluffy pillows. The blue and white color scheme continues here with splashes of colorful and interesting art on the walls. Hanging above the bed, a red tin crab almost dares anyone to be crabby for even one minute spent in this ideal vacation home. The room contains plenty of hanging closet space and a six-drawer chest for folded amenities. Here also you'll find a desk should you want to check email using the wireless connection. Adjacent is a compact full bath. As with the rest of the house, windows fill much of the wall space.
The next door down is a second full bath. And next to that is a second bedroom also with a queen bed. Lie on the queen bed and look right through glass doors for yet another view of the deck and pool area. A chest of drawers and ample closet space make this room all that you need for relaxing during the day or sleeping at night.

We recently rented Casa Camilla for a week long vacation in the Keys. We had a wonderful stay. The cottage is perfect for 4 people and had all the accommodations needed for our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We recommend that you pay for the heated pool when renting during November as we did need to add this for our stay. Tim at Historic Hideaways was very informative and such a nice person - we recommend that you rent through his office. In addition, we recommend the Commotion Cruise, a beautiful and fun sunset cruise by Fury Watersports and dining at the Hot Tin Roof.

My first online booking for a private home, and I was not disappointed. As described, the home was very clean, charming, spacious and most importantly, the pool and cabana was just as the photo described and was our favorite retreat. The historic neighborhood adds to the over all charm and is very safe for walking even in the late evening hours. My husband and I spent Thanksgiving Week with my parents and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Camilla. We highly recommend this property.

Casa Camilla is beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable, has a variety of amenities, and generally made our stay in Key West a great one. It is hard to find any fault with the property. It would have been nice to have had the pool heated, since we were there in November, and it was a little far from downtown--that could be a plus if you are looking for peace and quiet--otherwise it had everything that we needed.

Casa Camilla was a perfect match for our vacation. We loved the private pool. This house had everything we needed already there. We rented bikes for the week. This house is in a great location just enough away from it all to relax, and close enough to be in the fun when we choose.
