This two-bedroom, two-bath classic contemporary is the perfect headquarters for your dream vacation. The entire inside is painted cloud white. This choice creates not only a crisp, clean elegance but also serves as the perfect backdrop for an amazing art collection. It's fitting that this special residence isn't designated merely by a street number but rather is named Valhalla. Of Norwegian descent or not, in a short time you'll come to appreciate the reference to heaven, to a personal piece of paradise.
Start your tour in the pool area, which easily comprises half the property. How appropriate this outdoor space allocation is for an island boasting 260 sunny days per year. If you're like most vacationers, you'll want to spend a large chunk of time floating or swimming or just dangling your toes in the sparkling blue water.
If you're ready to read or nap, move from the heated waters of the Riviera-shaped pool to the stone deck and sink into lime-green chaise lounge chairs. Small cocktail tables wait nearby for your iPad or Kindle and beverage. You can stretch out in sun or shade depending on the time and the play of sunlight through the verdant tropical foliage ringing the deck area.
And when you want complete shade, move to the adjacent wood-planked, roofed veranda. Here you'll find potted plants, a conversation area, a dining area for six, and a barbeque grill. Sit to enjoy some fresh tropical fruit or a sinful slice of Key Lime pie. This sheltered space is also perfect in case of brief tropical showers. You can enjoy the rain and soak up the healthy effects of negative ions while staying dry and comfortable.
Now step through the back door to enter the house. You're immediately in a "great room" that serves as the family room, TV or movie viewing room, living room, and study. The great room centers around a white couch with three cinnabar pillows arranged among white cushions. The red/orange square pillows reference the three framed paintings on the wall above. These works create a stunning contrast of vibrant palate of reds, blues, yellows against the rectangular white wall and vaulted ceiling above. Everything is white except the art in this room, down the hall, and in the bedrooms. The collection is eclectic and diverse, ranging from ancient to contemporary, from local to world famous, from found objects to sculpture to carvings to paintings.
To the right as you stand at the back door is a compact, functional kitchen that has everything you need to whip up some delicious one-bite appetizers or full meals. A wrought-iron rack suspended from the ceiling puts cookware and utensils at your fingertips, adds visual interest, and maximizes storage space. On the left is a convenient open-shelf pass-through that compliments the open floor plan.
From the kitchen, move down the hallway, which has more fabulous art on the right and three doors on the left. The first and third doors open into comfortable bedrooms and the one in between is a full bath. The first bedroom offers a queen bed with puffy white duvet, white bed linens, white louvered closet space, white dresser, and more colorful art. The second bedroom, the master suite, features a queen bed dressed in puffy white linens as well with the added convenience of another full bath. You know by just looking that you could sleep peacefully in either bedroom.
But before bedtime, there's vacation fun to be had: the tours, beaches, museums, water sports, shopping, bars, and over two hundred restaurants await you. To know what the Southernmost City has to offer from minute to minute, get a copy of Paradise, the free weekly round-up of local activity available almost everywhere or check the Calendar page at milezerokeywest.com. Both sources list the current music scene, movies, plays, gallery openings, and charitable events just to name a few. You will find plenty to entertain you. And you can still look forward to going back to your own private heaven, sleeping soundly, and getting up tomorrow to do it all over again. And at vacation's end, Valhalla will stick in your mind, will call you back.

This home is really lovely and larger than we expected, having never been in a 'shotgun house'. Kitchen is small but fully functional w dishwasher etc. The house has everything you need (beach towels, laundry detergent, TP, etc) and the quality is great, eg crate & barrel dishes... The pool area is totally private, peaceful, and really quite beautiful. Never saw any neighbors, heard them once or twice but they were very quiet. Mgmt company was approachable and accomodating.
We were there with our 2 teens, lots to do. Because KW is a party town and everyone sleeps late, we had no late morning parking dilemmas at the beach, unlike Sanibel. Wish we could have stayed 2 weeks. Can't wait to come back so our only concern is...if we are honest in our review, will Valhalla be available?
"A quiet and private poolside paradise in the Keys!"

Our stay at Valhalla was perfect. The house is decorated beautifully and had everything we needed. The private pool and covered back porch allowed us to maximize our time spent outdoors. The house was within walking distance of great restaurants and not too far from anything else we wanted to do. We will definitely be coming back to Valhalla. Aside from the house being a perfect getaway, the guys at Historic Hideaways were a true pleasure. They were very helpful and provided us with some great recommendations.

This is the sixth rental house I've stayed at and it was perfect. House was well furnished and modern and the kitchen had everything that was needed. The backyard was by far the most private and quiet of any in the past The house is within easy walking distance to Upper Duval (quiet end) and many great restaurants. This is definitely a home I will rent again! Thanks for the great experience!

We loved this house a lot. It was close to everything i.e shopping, restaurants etc. You could walk practically anywhere. We had a great time there. The check-in was not so great since they forgot to leave our key so we could go to the house. But after a few phone calls we were able to get a hold of someone and they came down and gave us a key.

Valhalla was the perfect vacation rental for myself and my wife. the home was tastefully decorated and provided everything we needed. The kitchen had all that we needed as well to feel at home, the yard and pool were so quite and private we spent most of our time out there and is easily the best part of the house.
The location is close to Duval and Simonton St. and is easy walking distance to everything.
I wouldnt change anything and look forward to returning every year!

Valhalla was a great cozy private escape in key west. Probably my favorite vacation rental that we have stayed in key west and we come down every august from south florida. We spent most of our time in the pool & backyard which was fantastic for lounging (pool is not as big as it looks in the pictures but still perfect for us). The property had everything we needed and is very private. A lot of quirky artwork around the house gave it a nice ambiance. Kitchen was stocked with everything you could need. Like anything in life every good must have a bad...The only negatives were that there are no Tv's in either bedroom and there was no air circulating in the bathroom in the master so it was a bit hot in there all the time. The bathroom sliding door jammed and i was stuck in there for 10 min until my boyfriend saved the day. Also the living room area was a bit cramped for more than 2 people to comfortably hang out because the white couch is rather small. But we didn't spend too much time in there cuz were in key west!! But the good definitely outweighed the bad by far & really the overall experience was wonderful! I would definitely return

Valhalla is perfectly sized for four adults. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pictures of the property online do not do it justice. It is much nicer in person! Everything was very clean and the house has everything you need to be comfortable. We spent most of our time at the house outside, enjoying the beatiful landscapded pool and patio.
It is close to the beach but we ended up driving to the pay beach @ the fort most often. The beach that is in walking distance is small and has alot of seaweed. The house is an easy walk to Duval Street and we used taxis a few times when we didn't feel like walking from one end of the island to the other.
If we make it back to Key West,we will definately go back to Valhalla and Historic Hideaways!

Pool and deck were incredible. Spent most of our time out there. The house was great. Everything we needed was there. It was my husband's 50th bday over the July 4th wkend. It made his bday.
We were amazed at how awesome the fireworks were for such a small island. Key West is one of our favorite places and we will visit Valhalla again!

I have 3 complaints we were not given code for alarm and police came. Not the best first impression! Small ant problem in kitchen. Bathroom door in Master bedroom hard to open and close. Other than that this place was a dream. Pool was heated and needed as temps at times where chilly it was sooo nice. Wish we could have stayed an extra week.

We had a great time, the house was perfect and fitted our needs. I loved the floor plan of the house so much that am having my draftsman to render me a plan for a similar home. Also the pool was awesome, as well as the landscaping. This house absolutely made our trip, Beth was very helpful. My only suggestion would be to add a peep hole to the front door.

Just to give you an idea of how nice this property is- My 7 year old said, "mommy this house is better than ours!" And my 23 year old step -son was equally impressed with the signed artwork on the walls. Truly a Key West experience!

Went with three friends to just get away from it all. we had a great time! the home is wonderful. Everything you could possibly want. The pool area is a tropical oasis. There was just one small problem. One of us left a ring in the master bathroom on the window sill. Well we called as soon as we noticed and were told no, not there. So you might want to check your cleaning service for honesty. just sayin'. Read more
Sorry we were unable to locate the ring, but I do wish to mention that the cleaner for that house has been doing it for 9 years, without incident. I also went myself to look for it, and the owners happened to come to the house right after you for a stay, and also looked. So I wonder if you may have lost it elsewhere? If something comes to mind please let us know. Bill - Manager

We've enjoyed Key West twice in the last two years. This was our first stay at
this home and we would rent again. This home and backyard were beautifully
restored and had every amenity we could've wanted. The only drawback was
that the rental outfit didn't instruct us on how tho use the security system
properly, or how to turn on the pool heater. A very minor inconvenience that
the owners (who were very nice) remedied quickly for us. Easy access to the
hustle and bustle of Duvall, but once "inside" Valhalla, your own, private
escape. Wonderful memories!

We sort of new what to expect when we arrived based on the photos but it's even better in person. The house was simply stunning and it had every amenity you could possibly think of. The pool was the best part. Next time we travel to Key West, we will base our travel on the availability of renting this house again.

We participated in a fund raiser for epilepsy in Houston and won the week at the house in an auction. We had never been to Key West and could not have been happier with the house and the island. It was beautiful, well furnished and very comfortable. It was also very close to both the beach and the clubs. We had a great week and will come back and rent from Historic Hideaways again.
