Borve House remains a firm Steading Holidays favorite for families and couples alike. Borve has a superb elevated hillside location in the settlement of Portuairk, with a good size veranda to take full advantage of the stunning panoramic sea views over the white sandy beaches to the Atlantic breakers beyond. There is a fantastic variety of walks available from the doorstep – coastal, hill or remote wooded glens – this part of Ardnamurchan really is a wild and untamed land. Location is everything and when it comes to spectacular scenery, Portuairk is very hard to beat.
On one level, the property consists of an entrance lobby and cloakroom leading to the hall, large kitchen, utility room, separate toilet and washbasin, living room with dining area, open fire and patio doors opening onto a spacious balcony with table and garden chairs. There are also two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom and a bathroom with shower.

The beautiful location cannot disguise the property's shortcomings. Cold and stale on arrival, with uncharged storage heating and minimal coal/logs for a fire.
Kitchen very dated and unwelcoming. Oven/hob appalling. Lighting throughout the property is inadequate making reading after dusk impossible. It is also difficult to accept that bedding/towels and heating are not inclusive.
We could not locate a first aid kit - needed after cutting heel on the swinging gate. In addition, candles/torch were non existent - essential staples even before the long power cut.
We enjoy frequent self catering holidays at all times of the year in the Western Isles (even formerly lived & worked in ardnamurchan!). However we can only say that Borve cottage is sadly lacking in comparison with most properties these days & is poor value for money.
We apologies that the heating wasn't on for your arrival and it was unfortunate that we had electricity cut during your stay, the whole of the highlands had no electricity that night. We have put in a first aid kit and emergency kit for electricity cuts into Borve. We have also put in more lighting.
With regards to value for money Dondies, the cottage next to Borve is ideal for a couple with everything inclusive.

Borve House has one of the best views of any holiday let we have stayed in. The house is modern and well equipped. Very few amenities nearby but that's why we chose this location, do your grocery shopping in Fort William before going across on the Corran ferry. The shop in Kilchoan is good for a few missed items but not ideal for a full weeks grocery shopping. If you enjoy peace and quiet and varied difficulties of walks this is the perfect place. The last part of the journey is interesting on single track roads but this adds to it's charm.
“Glorious views outside, but not so glorious on the inside!”

Can't fault the location and awesome views, but interior of the cottage looking a bit tired and in places, very grubby! Laminate floors gritty and covered in dog hairs when we arrived, presumably from the previous tenants. (No doubt the faulty vacuum cleaner didn't help, but I managed to fix it and probably left the floors cleaner than when we arrived as a result!) Obvious, lower level surfaces clean, but the presence of cobwebs and dust-bunnies throughout the property would suggest a spring clean may be long overdue... Bathroom the exception, which was very fresh and clean (recently re-fitted?), but towels way past their best and too small. Beds comfortable and bed linen clean and fresh, which was a relief after the initial disappointment.
Poor value, once all the "extra's" are taken into consideration. (Have stopped in several far superior properties at significantly less expense.) Yes, you have to pay a bit extra for the location but overall, the cottage simply didn't pass muster!

Brove is a very warm comfortable cottage with everything you need to help make it a great holiday.I Dont think we have ever spent a holiday in a more peaceful and beautiful location it is beyond words. Steading holidays were most helpful and friendly, and we were so impressed with everything we have booked for the same time next year!!
