traditional country cottage

Built in 1928, this traditional farm workers' cottage is set in an acre of ground, just 2 miles from the stunningly beautiful 'Redbarn' beach. The cottage comprises a simple dwelling with a combined living room and kitchen furnished with traditional hand made dresser and cupboards made by a local crafts man, Brian Coffee. Additional Location Information

the cottage is situated in country side with just afew houses near and is 2 miles from the sea.The cottage is in a tiny village called Gortaroe (Irish spelling varies, so on some road signs it is shown as Gortroe or Gortnagark!!). It is about half a mile off the N25 road between Killeagh and Youghal. Take the turning for Gortaroe with Green barn nursery (signposted) on the corner and continue to a T junction and it is there ahead of you: there are two cottages there and ours is the one on the left as you look at it. The easiest way to get there by public transport is by taking a bus to youghal then a taxi to Gortaroe. You could also ask the bus driver to stop at green barn nursery then walk to the cottage.
Note that in the Irish country-side houses do not usually have numbers!!
From cork airport it takes 30-40 minutes by car. Follow the signs for Rosslare, drive through Killeagh and take the turning on the right to gortaroe when you see the signs and flags for green barn nursery.
the area has beautiful country side all around for walking and benefits from really good restaurants , farmers markets fish and smoked fish suppliers. fota island has a lovely park and a zoo. cove has thr emigration museum and a festival with fire works every year. balarney castle is open all year and is about a 40 minute drive away. there is a martello tower in walking distance. the historic village of cloyne is in 30 minutes drive as is the ancient church at ardmore.
