Additional Location Information

The island is the third largest in the Koh Chang archipelago, which is situated off the Thai/Cambodian coast in the North East corner of the Gulf of Thailand (great for planning trips to/from Cambodia/Vietnam/Laos etc).

It's a 45 minute speed-boat ride from the mainland, and lies south of Koh Chang. Main activities on the island include snorkelling, diving, fishing, boat-trips, swimming, and cycling. Great food (sea-food, fruit, Thai/European), very modestly priced.

The nearest mainland town is Trat which has become an extremely popular stopping point en route to the Cambodian border 100km away. Koh Mak makes an ideal resting point on journeys around this corner of South East Asia, including Myanmar, Cambodia , Laos and Vietnam.

Protected from both tsunami and flooding, it is small enough to cycle round in a few days. It has many beaches, while inland there are coconut groves, rubber plantations and natural jungle. Diving, snorkelling, boat trips, fishing etc are all available throughout the season. The island has a large choice of bars and restaurants both in and out of the resorts. Sea-food is also cheap and plentiful. Overall, Koh Mak is known for the tranquility and peacefulness of it's life-style, and the friendliness of the local people.
