On the edge of Gion, the centuries old entertainment district, walk out the door to feel the vibrant energy, enjoy the classic beauty of Kyoto. Come home to well appointed two room apartment designed to cater to your needs and comfort as a traveler.
Walk through the fully equipped galley kitchen to the main room and find a comfy double bed with memory foam padding for extra comfort, a space saving collapsible table for 2-4 people, large mirror, fridge, microwave and hot kettle.
Through the sliding doors you will find the living room which doubles as a second bedroom. This room also has a 32" Smart TV connected to Youtube and my Hulu Japan account. You can also play your own movies and look at your photos by connecting a USB stick. This room has a large comfortable rug and floor sofa making it ideal for lounging low profile Japanese style.
Families can enjoy movie nights or let the kids stay up and watch TV while they get a good nights sleep in the other room.
The living room is ideal for having lots of space to do yoga, exercise, stretch out, pack and unpack bags etc.
In the closet are two comfy futons also with memory foam toppers which can be taken out at night for a good nights sleep.
This room comes with an important extra. A portable WIFI router that you can carry around town! A must for Japan as you can use translate apps, maps, messaging services and all with a smart phone linked to the WIFI. Japan is a bit behind the times as far as access to wifi and internet in general (outside the big phone companies) so this will be a vital asset. After you confirm your booking I will also share info about recommended apps to download and lots of links to great sites for planning your trip.
Interaction with Guests
Part of the reason I got into hosting is that I truly enjoy helping my guests get the most out of their trip to Japan. I have hosted many friends over the years and Airbnb guests for almost a year now and I am always learning new things from my guests, including how to be a better host and make the rooms more comfortable for your stay. Once you've booked, I will email PDF photo directions and the keys will be stored in a secure mailbox so if I am unable to meet you at the station for check-in, you can easily access the apartment. When you enter the room you will see the house manual with step by step room guide and a map to the neighbourhood with personal highlights and recommendations.
I will also share with you a link to a blog with all the info you need for planning your trip including how to get from the airport to the flat. I make sure to take care of the little details for you so you can focus on enjoying your trip.
This apartment is on a quiet street but right in the centre of all the action. Right in between most popular area for sightseeing and the place to go out and have fun at night. Gion (3mins walk) is full of action anytime of day but comes alive at night. Walk down the road where Memoirs of a Geisha was partly filmed (5min walk) or stroll over to Sanjo Bridge to see the buskers and college students hang out (8min walk) a bit further to Kiyamachi and Kawaramachi (10mins walk) and you are in the commercial heart of the city.
Kyoto is so easy to explore on foot and you will be so near everything that it is impossible to list. Heian Shrine (8mins), Yasaka Shrine (7mins) Kiyomizu Temple (25min), Sanjo Station (9min), Kawaramachi Station (12min) and the nearest subway station is Higashiyama Station (3mins walk) which can take you across the city and to Kyoto station in under 15mins. A taxi from Kyoto station is about 1500 yen. (Kyoto station is a few km south from the real centre of the action in Kyoto city)
Other Things to Note
The reason that I first decided to live in Higashiyama district was basically for the convenience of getting to and from the city centre (Sanjo/Shijo-Kawaramachi) on foot and for the fact that I could stroll through the beautiful streets of Gion along the way. Plus one of my favourite walks along the Path of Philosophy in the East side of the city is not far away. Even after two years in Kyoto I still love the nature in the Eastern mountains, the amazing temples and shrines, and checking out new bars and restaurants and I think this area is the perfect base to do so. I really love this apartment and this neighbourhood. I am pretty sure you will too :)TripAdvisor property ID 2966619...Read more
