Celebrating my daughter's recent high school graduation, we were in Tokyo and decided to travel to beautiful Kyoto for a change of pace. Found this beautiful gem of a property and was able to quickly and efficiently book it for our stay. Though it had more room than just the two of us needed, it was nonetheless a very well appointed property with everything we needed. Close to lots of shopping...and a scrumptious little bakery...it was a perfect base of operations for our explorations. We loved the shower/tub and the feel of the neighborhood.
The place had all the qualities we were looking for: clean, traditional feel, great location, and a helpful reservation and arrival staff.
And though I would agree with previous reviewer about the low beams/etc...being 6'4" I probably left small dents on most of them...it only added to the overall charm of the place. I will definitely stay here again when I come back to beautiful Japan.

My son and I stayed at Ju-Ichi-an for a week and enjoyed it very much. Staying in a Japanese style house was high on our list of experiences and this area was exactly what we were looking for. It was fun shopping in the area and in general just walking around the neighborhood and experiencing day to day living. The house was clean, neat and very well maintained. The owners were very helpful with all aspects of the rental process and made it very easy to secure the rental from the U.S. One problematic issue was that being over 6 feet tall meant ducking a bit and of course hitting my head on a few low beams. Even the entrance to the courtyard/alley has a low overhead and yes, I hit my head once on that one too. Also, the kitchen is very small and only allows one person to be working in it at a time as the passage is very narrow. These really weren't problems for us since we just made it all work anyway and found these "issues" to add to the charm of the place. Both my son and I would stay at Ju-Ichi-an again without hesitation.
