We have been vacationing in Playa La Mision for 5 years.. we love the beach and the community! This summer we needed a larger home since our children, friends and grandbabies were coming to visit so we were thrilled to secure Dougs home!!!
Doug is a wonderful host and checked on us through out the 2 weeks we were there, he was also available when we had questions!
Now to the good part..... the home is a treasure.... we are a family that loves to cook and the kitchen is AMAZING!!!! Oh the meals we had... ribs, clams, meatballs with spaghetti, german knackwurst with sauerkraut, bbq chicken, fish and chips ..... pancakes almost every morning!!!! ( See I told you we love to cook!!) We ate at the large table in the dining room then created a beautiful table in the courtyard.... So with all that eating we also had long walks on the beautiful beach as well as boogie boarding, frisbee, surfing, fishing, kite flying and lots more!!!
Each evening ended in a fire around the firepit of course with smores ( more food!) star gazing... the shooting stars were plentiful.. and lots of laughter.
Doug has equipped the home with games, toys, an AMAZING sound system.. lots of dancing!!! Plenty of towels as well as a washer and dryer ( which was great since we were there for 2 weeks!) and so much more!
We slept sound, woke up refreshed and started each day looking at the beautiful surf.
This a PURE HEAVEN.... my favorite vacation in a long time!!! Wonderful people in a very comfortable welcoming setting... Thank you Doug!
“Great place right on the sand feet from the water on the beach!”

You walk downstairs from the parking area to the house with nothing but sand and your private patio with a fire ring between you and the ocean waves. From talking to Doug the owner I could tell he wants you to have a great time and offered us some really helpful general advice on how to approach the trip including best times to cross the border. I agree with the other reviews it is a great house in an incredible location and plan to return soon. My one word of advice is to remember you are renting Doug's second home so print and take the instructions he gives you so that you can easily settle in knowing how everything works in the house. The caretaker Jose who has lived down the street for about 30 years is very friendly and asked us to let him know if we had any questions or needed any help.
We also enthusiastically recommend the restaurant Splash for any meal from breakfast to dinner. They have very good fish and shrimp tacos that are served all day long for a very reasonable price. When we were there over a fall weekend Splash seemed to be the local expat cantina of choice with friendly people, great reasonably priced drinks including great margaritas on the rocks, and bar appetizers including a very tasty tempura shrimp appetizer plate.

We're frequent travelers, but our favorite family spot is this incredible beachfront rental in La Mision. The whole family, including my elderly father, makes it down to celebrate a long weekend or holiday any chance we get. The house is located so far onto the beach that it feels like you have your own private ocean. The house is so comfortable with incredibly plush beds and giant walk-in showers that you really get the luxury resort feel without the pretension. Mr. Lewis has recently renovated the kitchen and it makes the house even harder to leave... everything is clean and the house is laid out so that adults can sip cocktails by the firepit while the kids sleep undisturbed on the other side of the house. Honored to write the recommendation as we've become quite the frequenters of La Mision. Mr. Lewis definitely deserves your business!

I was so impressed by the house, location and the beach. This is a great place and I would recommend it to all my friends, family and even a few strangers. The kitchen is amazing as I had thought that in Mexico there would be limited cooking facilities. Do yourself a favor, go there, stay there and return, I will be going back soon...
“Best Beach House in Baja! Don't miss this one. Right on beach!”

There is so much to say about this wonderful, charming house that my wife and I don't know where to begin; our contact Doug who I believe is the owner, was very nice ad accommodating to all our questions. We were looking for a house right on the beach and he told us it was. What we didn't expect was a house right on the beach. Literally. Some other peoples just say that but we went to bed hearing the gentle waves of the ocean. It was like being a thousand miles away from our home. With the beautiful remodeled kitchen, out door fire pit, spacious living room and bedrooms, we didn't feel like we were in some stuffy hotel, we felt right at home. We will be definitely coming back and I encourage anyone else reading this review to take up this rental. It is the closest house to the beach and by far the most charming with so many little amenities. We felt so safe & secure with a gated guard tha was on call 24/7. The neighbors are all from the states who have been coming for years and they are so warm and welcoming. The hightlight was roasting marsh-mellows by fire out on the pation with the bright bright stars above. The next day we took an unexpected horse ride and and a glided plane tour right outside our door. If that isn't enough, we had a "Tamale Lady" come bring us fresh tamales at a buck-a-piece! What a deal. We were free from laptops, cell phones and all of the other nuances that surround my family. We played board games (he has a closet full) listened to music through our Ipod thanks to the built in system and walked up and down the street. This was so much nicer than staying at a resort for us. And once again, we had no problem whatsoever taking the safe 30-40 minute ride from the border to Santa Rosa. Oh! My wife wanted me to mention the wonderful restaurants just down the streets too offering great ocean view meals and massages. Our only complaint is that it wasn't long enough. Thanks again, Doug! Asta la vista, Baby!
