Malaekahana Bay is just about everyone's idea of the perfect Hawaiian beach. With it's limited access, it's mile long crescent shaped bay appears deserted but you may bump into the occasional fisherman whipping for Papio or the venerable throw net master and is perfect for Swimming, Snorkeling, Surfing, Boogie Boarding, Kite Surfing and walking the Beach combing for the Famous Glass Balls.
Malaekahana Beach has plenty of popular reviews including Frommers, Home and Abroad, Sunset and Trip Advisor.
In the old Hawaiian day's, it was known as a place of Sacred Refuge for the Heart, Mind and Soul.
Walk down the beach a bit to Mokuauia, also known as Goat Island. About 750 off the Malaekahana beach, this island holds two of the sweetest little sandy beaches of its own. The island is a protected Turtle and seabird sanctuary, but is accessible. Take a stroll around the island on it's trail and when you find your spot on the beach to enjoy the view of Oahu from offshore, lay back in the sand on your own little deserted island. Excellent Snorkeling. When you get back from your adventure, there is an Outside Shower for your use as well as an additional enclosed bathroom with shower accessible from outside of the home.
Restaurants, horseback riding, hiking, ocean sports, and many other activities are very close by. Two miles south of Laie is Foodland Grocery store and other local dining as well as a few franchise establishments. BYU and the Polynesian Cultural Center are within 3 miles.
To the North 1 mile is the City an County Kahuku Golf course and 3 miles away is Turtle Bay Resort where there are 36 holes of championship golf a Pro shop and a extensive tennis facility. Casual as well as Fine Dining are available here.
Another ten minutes away is the famous surfing beaches of Oahu's North Shore including “Sunset”, "Pipeline" and “Rocky Point”. Two miles more will get you to Sharks cove and "Waimea Bay".
Another GREAT Place at a GREAT Price giving You more than a set of Key's !...Read more

Our families’ initial reaction upon seeing the house was, "Dad, are you kidding? Do we really get to stay here?" Indeed we stayed at this marvelous house and location for two wonderful weeks. It was everything the listing said it would be and more. Frankly, the pictures cannot do justice to this house and location. This was our long awaited family vacation with eight adults and eight children and we never felt crowded. Kids downstairs...adults slept upstairs. The amazing wrap around deck and patio served as our gathering place and dining room (we barbequed on the patio every evening). The front football sized yard was the kids play area, second only to the beach which was steps away. Most of the time, we had the beach exclusively to ourselves. The low tide excursion to Goat Island was a highlight. The kids played in the ocean every afternoon and evening. The outdoor showers kept the sand out of the house.
Some of our party knew the island of Oahu only from the Honolulu side but the drive to the Northeast coast is amazingly lush and green with thick tropical foliage. It reminded us very much of the island of Kauai. The house is set back from the main road creating a quiet secluded almost remote feeling even though it is short drive to Shark's cove (amazing snorkeling) Turtle Bay and shopping.
Our hosts Nancy and Bill were exceptional in their care and hospitality. They were responsive to our every request, although everything was so well prepared we only needed to call for trash pickup as is their protocol. As long time Hawaiian residents their suggestions of places to go and things to see were spot on! We spent some time getting to know them and by the time we left we felt like we had made lifetime friends. Final conclusion of the family, we need to make this house an annual event.
Thank you Bill, Nancy and Ohana.

We were a party of 11 friends in our late 20's, who were coming over from the UK to attend our friend's wedding. We stayed for 7 nights in august 2013.
This is a really beautiful place to stay - near the North Shore, hidden down a little dirt track, and then across the massive lawn you can see the impressive property. The other side, there is a lovely garden that backs on to a very quiet, long, and beautiful beach, which is basically your own for the week.
Nancy was immensely helpful - very prompt in communication, comprehensive in providing information, and made everything very convenient for the duration of the stay. The key was in a coded lockbox at the property, and there were minimal cleaning commitments required of us at the end of our stay, communicated to us via an information folder left for us at the house. Thus, we did not actually need to meet Nancy for the duration of the stay, and did not get any interruptions from cleaners or maintenance people. And the deposit has been sent back before I even asked!
The home was spacious, well equipped, fairly luxurious, and comfortable.
Basically I cannot fault the location, service or the home in any way, and I would like to thank Nancy again for a wonderful week.

We just returned from our amazing Hawaiian holiday. We were able to enjoy our vacation with all our children and grandchildren. This home is the perfect family home. It is spacious , clean, and large enough that everyone can have their own space. When we pulled up to the property, I was amazed at how pictures can not describe the location this house is on. The beach is amazing, private, quiet and clean. We enjoyed the backyard, the grass made a wonderful play area for our little grand babies who were not real sure they loved the sand. The covered deck was so wonderful, when the occasional rainstorm hit, we could still enjoy being outside. You can not go wrong with this rental!!! We researched a lot before renting this home, and it was everything and more than what was described. I might add that Bill and Nancy were amazing to work with, thank you for your visit and for making our stay so enjoyable. My only regret with the house was that we didn't rent it for a month. Beautiful, clean, quiet!!

What can we say? From beginning to the end everything was great! We had 3 families in the house. 2 of those had 4 kids each ranging in ages of 7 to 18. The house was perfect. Big enough for all to gather and roam, but you had your own little spots for privacy. You have anything you need in the house itself. Outside, the yard is beautiful with beautiful views! The backyard is huge, plenty of room to run. The front is even better. Lots of seating to sit back and watch the waves! The beach was the best part! The kids hated to leave. Not to often can you actually walk out of your house and right down to the beach. Had the beach to ourselves the whole time, which was awesome! Grocery store and shrimp trucks were not very far away 10 to 15 min. It was about an 1 hour away from the Waikiki area and only about 30 min from North Shore activities. All in all, there is really nothing bad I can say about this rental. We all really enjoyed ourselves and were sad to go! Thanks again, Nancy! Read more
Sounds like you all had a really GREAT vacation, spending lot's of quality family time at the home and the beach.
Yes, the home does offer alot of space for all to be comfortable and still have a little hide away for the quite time we all need after a full day out and about the Island.
One of the nicest things about this house is it's access to the secluded beach.
It is not uncommon to be the only person within eyesight.
So glad you all enjoyed yourselves, and we hope to see you next year !
Ahui ho (until we meet again), ALOHA !

Our stay at this home in the quaint town of Kahuku was the perfect place for our family getaway. In fact, this is our second year renting out the five-bedroom estate. It's just the best of both worlds-the front of the house overlooks the majestic mountain range, while the back of the house boasts the most surreal views of the Pacific Ocean.
The home is equipped with everything for your family's stay: snorkeling gear, beach towels, beach chairs, a full kitchen and a large patio with a barbecue. During our stay, we alternated nights out at the town's local favorites (such as Kahuku Grill-a must-try for their coconut shrimp!) with home-cooked meals.
One of our favorite aspects about the home (sometimes there's too many to count) is its nearly panoramic views of the ocean. Large windows in the family area, and in nearly every bedroom, offer ocean-views at every angle from the back of the house.
It's hard to side-step, however, the fact that this home is right on the oceanfront-just a trot down from the backyard leads you to sandy white beaches and rolling waves. In august, when our family came, the beach was nearly deserted, giving us pretty much our own private beach for the week. Just a short walk north, however, will bring you to another lovely beach that's just perfect for children (the beach by the house, while absolutely great for snorkeling, does have a few rocks by the water's edge). This beach has virtually no rocks and flat sand that stretches nicely into the ocean, giving small children a chance to play freely where the waves hit the sand.
It's safe to say that your stay at this vacation home will be an experience like no other. The home is located in a very quiet area, pleasing those who yearn for a little serenity, yet only a short drive from livelier spots, such as the North Shore, Turtle Bay, Lanikai Beach and Waikiki. Everyone will feel the 'aloha' at this special spot in the Hawaiian Islands-just like we did!

We had a family reunion of 10 adults and 7 youngsters (ages 17 down to 5) in July, 2012. We took care of beds for the littlest grandkids by renting mini air mattresses from www.travelbabees.com (picked them up in the Kaimuki district on the way from the airport to Nakapakea). Nancy and Bill kindly provided a big air mattress for the 17 year old, and also provided a large cooler on the back porch which housed the "adult beverages" for the beer and wine drinkers in the crowd. The house is awesome and with the additional sleeping mattresses was perfectly sized for a group of 17. The kitchen is very well equipped and our "world class" male chefs were pleasantly surprised that the house came furnished with excellent cutlery. The huge back porch was the ideal place for family dinners cooked by our chefs. The extra huge back yard gave us the ability to string up a volleyball net and play both volleyball and badminton. And the hammock at the far end of the football field sized back yard was a hit with the younger grandchildren. And the beach in front of the house is ideal for young kids not quite ready for big surf. The parents of the 2 youngest kids signed them up for swim lessons at Gunstock Ranch, which is a long walk or short drive across Kam Highway from the driveway leading down to Nakapakea. We recommend getting your fruits and veggies at the Kahuku Land Farms stand almost directly across from Turtle Bay Resort. Different family members hiked Diamond Head, swam with the turtles near the tide pools north of Nakapakea, visited the Dole Plantation (a little touristy, but fun anyway), and had the mandatory shaved ice in Haleiwa. We had a little typical Hawaiian liquid sunshine, one Portuguese Man 'O War sting, cussed at the nocturnal and very noisy Shearwater birds, and saw (but avoided any stings) one scorpion and one centipede. It's all a part of being in a tropical climate. All in all a great house and a great place for a family get-together.

What a beautiful home, right on the beach! There were 12 of us (5 children) and the accommodations worked out great for us. The beach is right out the back door. And the ocean right there is beautiful. All of the children were able to swim in the water with no problems. Many of the adults and children enjoyed using the boogie boards and we had rented a 2 person kayak that was great for paddling around. Each day that we were on the beach we were surprised at how few people there were. If we ever make it back to Oahu this is the house we will choose to stay in again!
Just don't forget your water shoes, there are a fair amount of rocks in the bay, which also makes for nice snorkeling.

Aloha Nancy & Bill. I believe this is our 7th year renting beach houses from you and of course it was awesome as usual. This is an excellent beach house for our growing ohana and we all love staying there each year. The front yard is sooo big it allows the kids to play around and do whatever they please without any worries about cars since it is a private road. Baseball, football, bocce balls, chase, etc. We especially love the outside lanai area with the large picnic table where we have our ohana meals and the view of the valley reminds us that we're on vacation even though we live on the opposite side of the island. Of course the ocean right outside of the beach house has been so fun for the kids to surf and fish. They especially liked exploring Goat Island and all it has to offer. Our yearly ohana vacation is never disappointing staying there. Mahalo again... Read more
Always a pleasure to have you and your Ohana stay with us and we enjoy seeing how the keiki have grown. I'm sure they enjoyed the "wide open spaces" of this particular property and we look forward to seeing you all again this year ( your dates are already reserved).
Aloha and ahui ho !

Large home fronting beautiful and largely deserted beach on Oahu's windward side. Huge yard is great for kids of all ages. 5BR and 3 indoor baths plus outdoor shower provided plenty of room for our party of ten. Well stocked kitchen. Nancy and Bill were nice enough to outfit all of us with boogie boards and snorkel gear. They were responsive when small items didn't work or needed repair. Home was clean but does have a few of Hawaii's de rigeur bugs. We enjoyed north shore surfing, Hanauma snorkeling and a fabulous 50th birthday dinner at Turtle Bay. I patronized every local fruit stand several times during the week. Read more
