“Just Brilliant!!” If your looking for a nice quiet well appointed apartment in the town of Rye you would have great difficulty in getting any better than 16 The Boathouse. The place was spotless with good facilities and a nice bottle of wine and 2 bottles of lager to welcome us. If there was any downside it would be the decrepid yacht hulks moored in the river outside of the window but this did not detract from the overall enjoyment of our stay. The contact arrangements and key collection was ver easy with no problems at all.

About Rye

The wide variety of shops, charming English style pubs, and quaint cobblestone streets provide a lovely backdrop for the town of Rye. Explore the ruins of Camber Castle, shop at the trendy boutiques along Main Road, or head to the docks for a beautiful sunset.

While you're in Rye, be sure to also save time for some of these must-see attractions and activities:

  • Romney Marshes: These wetlands cover over 100 square miles and even have their own breed of sheep that thrive in the conditions of the marshlands.
  • Saxon Shore Way: This long distance footpath takes you past several of the main attractions in town.
  • Martello Towers: Built as part of England's coastal defense in the 1800s, several of the forts that stand 40 feet high still remain fully intact and have been preserved as historic monuments.
  • Go Kitesurfing: Head to Rye Harbor or Camber Sands during the summer months to try your hand at this unique sport where you're drawn across the water on a small board that's powered by a kite.
  • Rye Country Market: Head to this local market where you can buy locally made crafts, plants and fresh farm produce.

The East Sussex area of the United Kingdom has several events and festivals throughout the year, and many of them are within a short drive of your future getaway home. Watch the exhibitions, talks and plays all celebrating the life of Thomas Paine during the Revolution and Reason Festival in July, enjoy the classical music and literature of the Rye Festival in September, or head to nearby Eastbourne for the two week celebration of art and culture in March known as the Eastbourne Festival.

Romantic Rye

Excellent, top quality accommodation within minutes walk of Rye centre. Welcome pack of beer and wine much appreciated by husband after long drive! The flat was fully equipped and tastefully furnished with a great view out over the river - we saw several boats sail past. Ideal accommodation for a couple, our second holiday away without teenage children - just what we could have wished for. Plenty of excellent cafe's/restaurants/coffee/tea shops - spoilt for choice. Good customer service from the owner when contacting him for key arrangements. We did not make use of the Wi-fi as charges were very high, would have preferred small cost to have been included in the rent. Car parking in numbered bay right outside property. … see more

The Salty Dog Holiday Cottage
Great place, with on the ball owner

We've had 2 x 2 week holidays here. It is the location that draws us and this seems one of the very best places to stay in Camber self catering. With 2 pre school kids we do need lots to do so enjoy the beach (7 mins, over a dune, fun!) in all weathers (fab beach, does get windy so handy that the house includes useful extras like wind break that you can use) and also visit the plentiful Nat trust places, Hastings, fabulous Bedgebury pinetum, Dungeness with it's little railway etc etc. The welcome guide provides lots of info for you. The estate this place is on is all clap board, very pretty, presumably lots are holiday homes etc. Lots of equipment including toys which are handy if you have kids. I would and have recommend a stay here. The owner, Carol, is very responsive on email and helpful, and also I am the type to provide feedback on minuscule things which has been well received and indicate that the Carol works very hard to make the place it's best and to keep in good condition, it feels like a classy and comfy home. … see more
