Our holiday home rental in situated in the beautiful Languedoc Roussillon, the south of France
About the village:
The village in which our holiday home is situated, Saint Geniès de Fontédit, is in the beautiful Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. It is a charming village in the middle of the vineyards with all amenities (café, grocery, tabac, post office, pizzeria, bakery, garage, wine growers/wine sellers).
The village is 10 minutes north of Béziers. From Béziers just take the D909 going towards Bédarieux and you’ll see on the right the sign for the village. The holiday home is in the centre of the village.
Once you are in Saint Geniès de Fontédit you are only 5 minutes drive to rivers (Orb), 20 minutes drive to the Mediterranean coast of the south of France (Serignan Plage and Valras Plage), at 10 minutes from the Natural Parc of High Languedoc, at 30 minutes drive to the Salagou Lake. As well 25 minutes drive to Pézenas, 10 minutes from Béziers, 45 minutes from Montpellier).
At 1 km only you have the first supermarket (Intermarché - Magalas).
About the Languedoc region:
The Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, in which our holiday home is situated, is the fastest-growing area of the country. It offers hundreds of kilometres of sandy beaches, beautiful rolling vineyards as far as the eye can see (it is France’s largest wine-producing region), and huge numbers of historical sights - from dramatic castle ruins to beautiful abbeys and roman ruins. In Carcassonne you’ll find the world’s largest medieval castle - La Cité, not far from the beautiful tree-lined Canal du Midi. Just south are the Cathar Castle ruins - perched on rocky outcrops with spectacular views of the Pyrénées and the Mediterranean. In Nîmes you’ll find the Maison Carée Roman temple and the Les Arènes roman amphitheatre. and just north of that the Pont du Gard - the world’s largest roman aqueduct. All along the coast, you can enjoy superb seafood in the many fishing villages and towns such as Bouzigues, Sète, Collioure and Gruissan.
The weather is hot and sunny - with over 300 days of sunshine a year. That makes it the perfect climate for wine - the region’s wine domains dot the landscape, producing deliciously fruity reds and whites such as Picpoul de Pinet and Viognier. You can pop into almost any of these to taste their wines, or enjoy them in the region’s excellent local restaurants, many of which offer outdoor seating in leafy squares.
Getting to our holiday home in the Languedoc is easy and inexpensive. The Ramparts gîte is only 30 minutes from Béziers airport, and also within 90 minutes of the airports of Montpellier, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Nîmes, Avignon and Girona in Spain (flights by RyanAir, FlyBe and British Airways, amongst others.)
