Additional Location Information

The village of Lastingham provides peace and relaxation and has much to offer the holidaymaker. It is a place of unique beauty and historic interest, nestling at the southern edge of the North York Moors. This quiet haven with less than 100 inhabitants has a charming Inn, The Blacksmiths Arms and the renowned Grange Hotel. Its most famous building is the splendid and historic church of St Mary, with its famous ancient crypt, built in 1078 as a shrine to St. Cedd and St. Chad who came from Lindisfarne to found the monastery here in A.D. 654.

Lastingham is situated approximately 30 miles north-east of the splendid city of York and just 4 miles from the A170 road which runs along the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park.

The area has many and varied attractions, including the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, Ryedale Folk Museum, Flamingo Land theme park and an abundance of castles, abbeys, churches and stately homes including Castle Howard, Pickering Castle and Rievaulx Abbey.

Whatever your interests- cycling, horse riding, golfing, walking or just touring in this glorious countryside - we have it all here - woodlands and heather moors, hills and dales and the delightful East Coast seaside resorts only a short distance away. Within a radius of 35 miles a wide range of attractions await your discovery.

There are plenty of good pubs and eating places in the area so you don't have to cook at all if you don't want to!

We look forward to making you welcome in our little corner of North Yorkshire!
