Les Violettes- Peace and Tranquility in the Dordogne

This beautiful apartment is within Le Moulin de Ladouch which is the former millowner’s residence which has been carefully renovated throughout to the highest standards.

This picturesque property stands by the gently flowing millstream, in two hectares of beautiful, tranquil gardens, with its own swimming pool. The millstream runs into the little river Ladouch at the bottom of the garden, which in turn meets the Vézère in nearby Le Bugue a 10 minute walk away.

The swimming pool is set in the two hectare (5 acre) garden. The garden provides many peaceful shady corners to sit and relax to the sound of the millstream and its little cascades. ...Read more

Additional Location Information

Le Bugue and the Surrounding Area

Le Bugue lies on the Vézère about 40km from Perigueux, the capital of the Dordogne area. It is a lively little town with a great variety of shops and good restaurants. Every Tuesday it hosts a very busy market with fresh local produce, fish and seafood of the highest quality.

Also at Le Bugue, you’ll find Le Bournat, a re-creation of 19th century village life with demonstrations of traditional crafts; le Gouffre de Proumeyssac (crystal cathedral); Aquarium du Périgord Noir and Bara Bahu (prehistoric caves).

The surrounding area is full of beautiful medieval bastide villages, including Sarlat, Domme, Limeuil, Belves and Monpazier (four of “les plus beaux villages de France”).

Within easy driving diistance is Perigueux, city of culture and history, and Bergerac with its wine museum. Also nearby are the famous castles of the Dordogne including Castelnaud, Milandes and Beynac, as well as the beautiful gardens at Meyssignac.

From an historical perspective the local area is the centre of European prehistory and offers many famous caves such as Lascaux, La Roque St Christophe, Grotte de Villars and the Grottes du Cazelle and Cap Blanc all again within easy driving distance. The very impressive modern ‘Musee de Prehistoire’ at Les Eyzies (8km) and the nearby archeological digs are certainly worthwhile visiting to get a feeling for the historical importance of this area.

The Périgord Noir is also, of course, well-known for its outstanding and varied cuisine - truffles, fois gras and walnuts and there are many fine restaurants offering a wide variety of menus.
