“Great Michigan Getaway!” Our stay at Indian Pointe was beyond our expectations! The house and amenities were great! The only thing I will now know for next year (yes, we hope to return again next fall) was the fact that so many little things were supplied with the rental such as coffee, sugar, tea, coffee filters, etc. This was a great weekend getaway! It felt like our home away from home!

“Great location, clean and comfortable.” I spent a weekend with friends and we all enjoyed the cottage. It was very clean and quiet. It accommodated four adults comfortably and has all the amenities in the kitchen and bathroom, complete with good tasting city water you can drink from the tap and strong water pressure. The Smart TV in the living room with wifi provided entertainment for music and movies. And there's a nice kitchen table for games and meals. In addition to the comforts, the location is really great. The cottage is beachfront and has large windows giving you a view of Lake Huron from both the living room and Kitchen. Depending on your plans for the weekend, it really is the perfect spot for a girls' weekend such as I did, or I could see bringing my family here, or booking it with another small family. I stayed during Winter, but I noticed there are some nice swings, a fire pit, and the beach for long walks to make a summer stay fun. There's also a party store across the street and a full grocery store a quick drive away. We ordered pizza one night and that was convenient too. I definitely plan to stay again and would recommend it to others.

About Michigan

Extending away from two peninsulas and touching four of the five Great Lakes, Michigan is a diverse and beautiful state that is quintessentially Midwestern. Vast expanses of wilderness, spectacular beaches and welcoming cities make up the fabric of the state, and Michigan's outdoor appeal is complimented by its metropolis, Detroit.

If you're visiting Michigan, some of the things you'll want to check out include:

  • Detroit: This town is home to the Henry Ford Museum, a rich artistic and musical culture, three major casinos, and a wealth of excellent restaurants and entertainment venues.
  • Mackinac Island: Vehicles are not permitted on this beautiful island, which blooms with fields of wildflowers and berries that grow fresh and ripe in the summertime. Once you get your car back, a drive across the Mackinac Bridge is truly awe-inspiring. This graceful suspension bridge is the largest of its kind in the western hemisphere.
  • Isle Royale National Park: One of the most famous National Parks in Michigan, Isle Royale National Park is located on the state's northwestern shores, abutting Lake Superior. It also offers some of the best camping in Michigan.
  • Harbor Country: Filled with quaint towns and rural farms, Harbor Country is one of the best venues for Michigan romantic getaways. Summer and fall are the perfect times of year to experience the area's slow-paced, welcoming vibe and historic appeal.
  • Muskegon: One of the state's most widely visited cities, Muskegon is home to Michigan's Adventure, one of the best amusement parks in Michigan. It's a perfect place to bring your family for an unforgettable day.

Summer is widely considered the best time to get outdoors and enjoy Michigan's scenic beauty, but winter visits are equally satisfying. The state offers world-class winter sports, and the famous Detroit Auto Show is held annually in January and is a must for automotive enthusiasts.

A cabin rental is the perfect way to enjoy the idyllic beauty of the Michigan countryside, and if you're staying in the city, consider a condo as your vacation rental instead of a hotel. You'll enjoy all the comforts of home, and you'll have more space and privacy.

If you want to explore beyond Michigan, you can head north into southern Ontario, Canada, which is just across the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit. The beautiful lakes of Minnesota and the relaxing Midwestern vibe of Wisconsin are also just a short drive away.

Perch Lake Paradise
Awesome house in U.P.!

This was a great house for our large family. It was very, very clean. Nice location to visit many U.P. spots. We did the falls, crisp point, Grand Marais and pictured rocks. Enjoyed the pontoon boat on perch lake, nice added bonus! Bob was very responsive to questions about amenities. Would definitely book this place again. We loved your house, thanks so much for letting us stay!see more

Relaxing Vacation

We had a really nice stay at The Captains Cottage. We wanted a place to relax and fish and take in nature and this was a great spot! The boys enjoyed the kayaks, peddle boat, and row boat. All in all we had a very nice time and a much needed relaxing break from the real world. Loved seeing all the birds that we don’t get to see on the East side of the state as well as the pure silence and star gazing at night!see more

Relaxing vacation

Just got back yesterday and had a great time. Cottage was nice for our family, there was a crate large enough for our lab and Brittany for the few times we had to leave them unattended, and the place was stocked with plenty of activities for both the lake and any rainy days (puzzles/games). … see more
