Cottage Profile Private, 1700 square foot, three-bedroom cottage perched on top of a 30 foot cliff overlooking beautiful Gillies Lake. Gillies Lake is located near Dyers Bay, on the Northern Bruce Peninsula. The main living area of the cottage boasts cathedral ceilings with large windows that overlook the lake, a beautiful limestone fireplace, and local white cedar throughout. The large sitting area provides ample seating space for everyone in the party whether curling up with a book, or watching the TV with DVD player and VCR. It is also an ideal place to relax and enjoy a view of the water from the comfort of the cottage. At the other end of this open area is the eat in kitchen. A fridge, stove and microwave provide the necessities for cooking, and a table with four chairs is located here. Sliding glass doors lead from the kitchen area out to the wraparound deck, where you will find a patio set for six and a propane bbq. Enjoy outdoor dining while overlooking the water. Two of the three bedrooms are located on the main living level. Both of these rooms have Queen beds. The third bedroom, with two doubles, is located on the second storey. The bathroom is on the main floor, and is a four piece with both tub and shower. A mudroom with full laundry facilities is available on the main floor of the cottage for your convenience. Outside of the cottage, enjoy the use of the large 1000 square foot wrap around deck with Hot Tub. An outdoor fire pit is available for your family to enjoy in the evenings, and 2 tandem kayaks are provided for your family to explore the lake. Gillies lake is a large, deep, clear lake with very little development. 80% of the lake is protected by the Niagara Escarpment Plan. The cottage property has 200 feet of frontage onto the lake. There is a long winding driveway leading from the road to the cottage. There is a small 30 foot escarpment between the cottage and the lake. To access the lake, there are rough stairs chiseled out of the escarpment leading down to the water. At the lake the owner has constructed a new lakeside deck. The shoreline consists of flat limestone rock to the water's edge. The lake is approximately 50 feet deep at the water's edge. The lake has a healthy population of Lake Trout, Bass,Perch and Whitefish. For those who like to hike the Bruce Trail, it is located a short distance away and provides some of the most spectacular hiking in North America. For cyclists, the area has miles of back country roads to explore or follow the spectacular shoreline road to Cabot Head Light House. This ride is squeezed in between the 150 foot cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment and the waters of Georgian Bay. For 80% of the road there is no development on either side, making this a nice place to enjoy a bike ride or a walk

Great cottage and great location in every way, except that the access to the lake is a bit tricky if someone is elderly. There are steep stairs and hard to sit around the shoreline. Otherwise the cottage is perfect and has a fantastic view!
New in 2014, the cottage now has wooden stairs down to the dock to replace the natural stone steps. The new wooden stairs make the shoreline more accessible.

I am writing this review on behalf of two couples who have traveled on vacation together for many years. The service we received from rentcottage.com was good, the location and property were ideal for us, it was very spacious and extremely private. Our only issues were with the house itself. We agreed to an adjusted rental week of Monday-Sunday due to the owners using the cottage prior to our stay. However, when we arrived at the cottage, it was clear no one had been there for quite a while. There were dead flowers in a vase with very bad smelling water and the house was not as clean as I would have expected. This was a disappointing first impression. We have rented other cottages and condos together and this was the least-clean property to which we have arrived. In addition, the property did not seem well-kept. One of the windows did not operate properly, the bedding had a very musty smell, the hot tub did not operate correctly (both of us own hot tubs) and we could not find the manual or instructions anywhere. The boat oars did not fit properly making it very difficult to row (there is no motor). They squeaked so loudly, the wives were able to hear the husbands rowing back across the lake before they could even see them. The kitchen was not as well equipped as others we have stayed at and it was almost impossible to cook indoors after dark because the lighting in the kitchen was so inadequate. The propane grill was left for us with virtually no fuel. We left the tanks full and the house cleaner than when we arrived. We tried not to dwell on the few things that were not quite right with this property because it was a lovely house and the lake and location were very nice, however, we would not return to that property or recommend it to friends.

This is definitely a 5 star experience...I only mark it as four star in the case
that you have very young children, where shoreline may be an issue. The
cottage is spacious and immaculate, with breathtaking views, and if you have
good swimmers, or if you enjoy non-motorized boating, this is the place for
you! Nothing beats the quiet surroundings and abundance of nature to
explore. The cottage is very well equipped -more like a home away from home.
Also, Dyers Bay is less than a 5 minute drive from the cottage, where, if you
want some shore line and worry-free swimming, it is there. Not to mention a
quick drive to Tobermory! We will definitely be returning, and recommend this
cottage to anyone.

Great experience. Summer 2009 was a cold one and the week we were at the
cottage was no exception. We really understood why there were so many
windmills on the drive up! There is a lot of wind at this cottage but the hot tub
kept us warm and the deck gets great sun.
We saw lots of great birds and snakes in the surrounding area.
