While the Principe Real is a historic area of Lisbon, and one of its most cosmopolitan neighborhoods, the nearby garden square features traditional terraces that are perfect for a summer drink and hosts Saturday morning flea markes. From here you can walk 5 minutes to the famous Bairro Alto neighborhood and and 10 minutes to the Chiado and Baixa areas. At the top of the street you'll also find the Botanical Garden of Lisbon, as well as antiques, clothing and design shops.
Try Rua D. Pedro V. to discover beautiful old Portuguese architecture, commerce, culture and very trendy restaurants, or else spend tiem admiring the spectacular views from the St. Peter of Alcantara lookout, offering the best view of Lisbon.
Should you wish to travel farther afield, you'll find a tram stop beside this viewpoint that will bring you in 5 minutes to the areas of Restauradores and Rossio, where you can find connections to Sintra. Similarly, a trip to Cais do Sodre takes another 5 minutes, and from there connections to Cascais and Estoril are easy and smooth.
