Marvellous private view point. Have Lisbon and the river at your feet!
This apartment is on the third floor (no elevator and the stairs are steep) of an ancient building on a pedestrian cobblestone street located in the middle of Alfama's medieval neighborhood.
Nearby you have various forms of traditional commerce, and it is walking distance from the majority of the most popular sightseeing destinations in Lisbon.
It is also at a walking distance to the train station Santa Apolónia, connecting the capital to the northern part of Portugal and also to the trains coming from Spain.
There is a parking place at 3 minutes walking form the apartment at Largo das Portas do Sol.
The apartment combines the medieval architecture with the designed and sophisticated way it has been rebuilt. The decoration is a mixture of traditional Portuguese style with oriental ambiance. These aspects, the astonishing view over Alfama roofs and the special luminosity of Lisbon ant it’s river Tejo “invading” the apartment through the windows create an unforgettable atmosphere. Don’t miss it!
It is a 140m2 duplex and has been renovated to include the following:
one big living room with two areas separated by the stairs and a curtain. In one side there are one double sofa bed, one single bed (185cm x 90 cm), one double and one single sofa, satellite TV, DVD and CD player;
a kitchen with washing and dryer machine, dish washer, microwave, electric stove and oven, fridge with freezer;
a bathroom with whirlpool bathtub;
one bedroom with a hand-carved king size bed (160 cm wide), a replica of the Portuguese "Bilros" style; it has a big roof window with an amazing view;
one romantic bedroom with 2 wrought iron beds each 130 cm wide;
one toilet with hidromassage bathtub;
In wintertime it is heated with electric and gas heaters.
Wireless internet connection available for those who have their own laptop with Wi-Fi compatible equipment.
We will welcome you with a bottle of wine.
Apartments 120 is located in Alfama, the medieval Moorish neighbourhood of Lisbon, where an emerging cosmopolitanism mixes with the “natives” day-to-day life. It is a village in the heart of the city, due to the fact that most of Alfama’s residents have lived here their entire lives and retain a strong sense of community.
Alfama was first settled by the Romans and Visigoths and was an important Jewish neighbourhood in the 15th century, but it was the Moors who gave the district its atmosphere and name (al hamma means springs, a reference to the hot springs used as baths until the 17th century). It is crowned by São Jorge castle, which was built by the Visigoths in the 5th century and enlarged by the Moors in the 9th century.
Be surprised by Alfama's narrow cobblestone alleyways, stairs and squares, built on a rock-hill that was responsible for its survival after the big 1755 earthquake that destroyed most of the medieval city. A walk through this old-fashioned residential neighbourhood is now a step back in time
It is an ideal place to explore hidden places, stunning views over the city and the river Tejo, restaurants, fado houses, or even to dance and eat sardines during the popular June festivals. Here you can find numerous little grocery shops, taverns and small restaurants - most having no more than 3 tables. At the edge of the Alfama, Lisbon's renowned flea market, the Feira da Ladra, is held in the Campo de Santa Clara every Tuesday and Saturday.
Contrasting with these timeless images is a trendy modern development by the waterfront across from Santa Apolónia train station which houses stylish design shops, restaurants and bars.
From here you can explore the rest of the city walking to the castle (S. Jorge) Baixa, Bairro Alto, Chiado or Santa Clara or even taking the tram number 28.
There are several other apartments at Alfama....Read more

We were met by Steve who took us up to our apartment and checked us in. He gave us some wine and left the place to us. The view is amazing and the apartment is very clean and has all of the amenities! This would be a great house for a family to vacation. The stairs are an issue however if you had a stroller or elderly members. It is close to climbing a ladder for 3 floors! If you don't mind climbing stairs, this place is perfect. The road to the apartment is old, so it has stairs in it and no cars are able to go on it. As far as sleeping in the apartment, there are two rooms upstairs, one has a queen bed and the other 2 twins. They both share a bathroom and there is a small day bed downstairs next to the couches. The upstairs room with the queen has a very short ceiling you have to navigate to get to the window and also to store your clothes. The kitchen was very nice and we had a good time cooking and hanging out in the living room. The apartment is situated very close to many tourist attractions. There are also several restaurants around and shopping is about a 10 min walk along the river. The Party scene is a 5 min Taxi and is well worth it on the weekends! Overall this place treated us to one of the best vacations we have ever had! I loved it and I would for sure come back. Read more
It's excellent you found the apartment that suit all your needs, it does have fantastic views of the river.
It's great to hear that your holiday was, clearly overwhelming.
Looking forward to see you in Lisbon.

We were with 5 women and stayed 4 nights in this appartment. Very good quality / price combination. The people of Traveling to Lisbon help you when nescessary. For example: 1 time the electricity went of. We called and they helped us right away. We stayed there in january and outside it was 15 degrees. We found it very cold in the appartment. There were not enough heaters to warm the appartment. Also, the water in the bath didn't get very warm. So most of the times we drunk tea to warm ourselves. That was the only thing that wasnot comfortable. When you go there in the winter, please take your sweaters and jackets with you. But... it's a very nice appartment and we loved it! Also loved Lissabon! Read more
It's great that you enjoyed the service provided by our staff, probably you should have contacted us regarding the heaters and the water in order for us fix those issues.
Hope to see you again in Lisbon.

Great location and spacious accomodations

Alfama is atmospheric, the apartment has a great view and is quite spacious. The decor is unique and funky. One bathroom smelled a bit, the stairs were quite steep but doable for fit folks in their 60's, and some beds were hard. The facilities for cooking and relaxing after a busy day of touring greatly enhanced our trip. I would recommend it to others with the caveat that there is lots of climbing up to the street and then up to the apartment. Read more
Thank you very much for the kind words. We're pleased to hear of your positive experience at the apartment in Alfama, it sure has a unique and funky decor.

Beautiful Flat in the Heart of the alfama
Left on 04/04/2012 for a stay in February 2012 | Jeanette
When we saw apt 120 online, it was our immediate choice for a week-long stay in Lisbon - awesome location in the heart of the alfama, beautiful view over the rooftops and the River Tejus - and the place itself was just like the photos, super comfy, beautiful interior. We weren't disappointed!
When we arrived, someone from Traveling to Lisbon met us at the flat and showed us what's what and offered us a bottle of rose. We settled in and then went out to explore the neighborhood. It was peaceful and quiet with a few cafes and restaurants, our favorite being Canta Da Vila Bistro owned by sweet Vinny from Brazil, and a little cafe down the road owned by a sweet man called Tony and his lovely wife where we had breakfast every day, with the best coffee. Relatively no nightlife, but the Bairo alto is a cheap and short taxi ride away, and shopping at the Baixa-Chiado is walking distance from the flat.
Our only complaint was a leaky shower downstairs and a couple pf space heaters that didn't work. Overall, for the price, Apt. 120 was a great value in an awesome neighborhood and was a big part of our fabulous first visit to Lisbon. Thank you! Read more

We stayed in the apartment for 3 nights in September, everything was ok with it. Very beautiful view from the window. Location was also was very good because we chose alfama deliberately. Two minuses - the agent who was supposed to meet us there with a key was late for approx. an hour and we had to sit on the street with our luggage waiting for him. Another minus of the apartment - it has a very-very steep stairs to get to it. Do not even try to climb it without holding hand-rails!

It's hidden away on a "walk street" (i.e. no cars) so once you find it and get your luggage down and up the many stairs, you shouldn't get lost again. The location in the alfama is within a short walk to many Lisbon attractions and public transportation. Mario checked us into the unit and spent a lot of time orienting us to the apartment and the city. He gets an a. The apartment is roomy and comfortable ... accommodated the five of us comfortably. Yes, you will bump your head on some of the low angles of the ceiling, but "so what?" My only warning would be those who cannot navigate numerous steps.

This place is great and highly recommended. The top level gets cramped as it is a glorified attic but there is a lot of space. Be wary of the transportation offered, however, as it is substantially overpriced.
We paid price of a hostel and it was better than a 5 star hotel!

Myself and 4 others, all of us young early twentysomethings, took a trip to lisbon for 3 nights. I'd heard lisbon has amazing hostels, but the value on this place was too good to pass up. Cool style, perfect location, super comfortable, and so much space. The view is the same view that most of the Miradores in alfalma have. I'm someone who always does an obsessive amount of research, and I can tell you this is easily the best deal I've ever had.

everything about the location, decor and design of the appartment was fantastic, just as described and as shown on the pictures. The only problem was that we were there in January and it was a very cold January. So the appartment was very cold, with no central heating system installed. The fan type heater was just too small to heat the place. Good thing that winter is almost over.

We were 6 female friends who stayed in Lissabon during a long week-end. All of us were very pleased with the location, cleaning...etc. We only gave 4 stars for the comfort because there was a light smell of damp in the house. I would without doubt recommend both the renting company and the appartement to my friends.

We loved our apartment in the alfama. The views were wonderful--over the rest of the alfama and the Tejo River and beyond. The location was central in the alfama and it was easy to get to all parts of the city from there. There were plenty of markets and restaurants within walking distance. The apartment was somewhat quirky--bright colors, interesting art, plenty of low ceilings because of the top floor location--but it was also airy and cool. We had plenty of space despite being six people and enjoyed the use of three bathrooms and a large dining room table.
We were sad to leave the views--we especially loved the sunrises over the Tejo!

The flat was really funky, newly refurbished and super clean, fully equipped. Located in a historical part of Lisbon, very close to fado clubs and famous sights. Located uphill, but if you get tired easily, there is a tram stop very close. Not for people with mobility problems though- the flat has lots of very steep stairs and the area around is also very hilly and with lots of steps. Also, the actual little street on which it is located was a bit smelly (a toilet for local dogs pretty much). Luckily the windows were facing a different way and the view was great (to the river). The only drawback we found was that we had to leave luggage somewhere after checking out (all lockers at the train station were full) but the office of the company who rents these flats out is a bit out of the way and also in another hilly area. Thank you for your review!
Apartment 120 is a good apartment with a nice view over the historical district.
Like you say, because of the stairs, it might not be the best place for people with mobility problems.
Regarding the luggage, when we do not have guests arriving on the day of your departure, it is possible to check out later. However, if we have people arriving it is possible to leave the luggage in our office.
It was a pleasure having you with us and hope you to come back soon.

We have come to visit Lisbon in apartment 120, for one week... Unfortunately, due to the Iceland volcano, we had to stay 4 more days !
But the apartment was very pleasant, the view is great and alfama is a very quiet and beautiful place to stay if you want to stay a few days in Lisbon. Moreover, it is very close to the center town, the tramway, etc. Read more
Thank you for your comments!
The volcano was a big problem for all of us. The guests that were leaving were not able to go and the guests who were arriving could not fly in also…crazy thing.
Despite that, we are happy you have enjoyed your stay in Lisbon and we appreciate the great comments about the apartment!
Hope to see you again soon!

What amazing ztay in a faboulous apartment, and trabeling to Lisbon personnell were very serviceminded!. Located in a very old, nice area, with narrow stair-streets, bakery and bars and restaurants close by. Easy to take the tram to and from the appartment - BUT: The appartment is not be recommended to people who has problems walking hills and steep stairs, and bring only small size suitcases - to enter the apartment you need to climb narrow stairs.
