COCONUT HIDEAWAY is one of the most charming and unique homes on the island. This is our private home -- not a 'rental unit' -- and we have decorated it with antiques, oriental carpets, original artwork and many collections from our travels abroad.
This home rents for $2200 per week plus tax of 12% and a $300 security deposit. Please note that FlipKey also adds their own booking fee.
Our Caribbean-inspired home is built in the 'Old Florida' style and boasts soaring high ceilings, gleaming hardwood floors, warm cedar siding, Tiffany-style lamps, a dramatic open staircase and unobstructed views of the beach from every room. We offer two screened porches, front and back, and open decks surround the house for sunning.
Comfortable hammocks offer the perfect spot for reading. Al fresco dining is available on the front porch for balmy tropical evenings, or our indoor dining table seats 7-8. We have a breezy outdoor seating area on the front porch overlooking the Gulf, and a cozy conversation area, decorated with antique wicker, on the back porch. Unlike many homes which are merely 'gulf view' or which require a long walk across the island on hot sand, our home is directly on the beach. We even have a tropical tiki hut nestled in the dunes, perfect for watching the sunset with a glass of wine...and a quiet tropical garden under the sea grapes, with orchids, frangipani, bamboo and ginger. We have spent over 25 years making Coconut Hideaway a very special and unique beach cottage to share with friends and family.
Each of the two main bedrooms offers both a king-size bed and an additional small daybed perfect for small children. The cozy sleeping porch has a single daybed with an additional trundle and has its own private entrance. (This is quite a small bedroom, but teenagers love the privacy!) We feature 100% cotton linens which are included with your rental as are all kitchen utensils, beach towels, chairs, beach umbrella and a use of a free dock slip for your boat. The kitchen features granite counter tops, bread maker, blender, microwave, toaster oven, coffee grinder and and crock pot. Two refrigerators offer plenty of space for extra ice, sodas and snacks. We also offer access to our fully stocked pantry, so you don't have to bring as many groceries. From canned goods and spices to rice and drink mixes, we keep our pantry stocked with a variety of food items just in case you don't feel like heading to the mainland for a shopping trip.
As part of the barrier island chain that includes Sanibel and Captiva Island, Little Gasparilla Island offers the peace and serenity that those overcrowded islands cannot. As a bridge-less barrier island, accessible only by water taxi, Little Gasparilla has fewer tourists, no high rises and no crowds on the beach. You vacation with dolphins and egrets, gopher tortoises and sea turtles. Unlike the congested 'condo/townhome' complexes to the south, the beach in front of Coconut Hideaway is rarely crowded.
The fishing is superb from the beach or the dock, and children and adults alike will also enjoy shelling, snorkeling, riding skim boards or simply floating on a raft. Noisy nightlife is non-existent, though you may encounter ghost crabs or giant sea turtles on the beach. There is daily water taxi service to and from the island, so mainland visits are relatively convenient.
There are several golf courses within 10 minutes of the marina, and an excellent fish market (Miss Cindy's) just across Placida Bay. There are charming gift and souvenir shops in the villages of Placida and Boca Grande.
Please note that most all houses on Little Gasparilla island are on stilts. Unfortunately, we are not handicap-accessible. We provide baby gates for stairs inside the home but small children will require supervision on the stairs.
Please note there is no smoking in the beach house. Our personal website has many additional photos and more information about the house and the island. Please note that for your protection and ours, we do not always update the availability calendar but you may e-mail us to double-check availability....Read more
Coconut Hideaway: Gulf-Front Dream House! Little Gasparilla Island, Florida
Additional Location Information
Little Gasparilla Island is one of the undiscovered charms of SW Florida. Nestled just off the coast of Englewood, Little Gasparilla island is situated just north of Boca Grande and south of Manasota Key. Unlike those islands, however, it has no bridge. Access is only via private boat or the island water taxi. This inaccessability means that the island is seldom crowded, there is no traffic and there are few tourists. You can meander the sandy pathways up and down the island, fish off the dock or the beach, watch osprey soar over the beach or observe gopher tortoises as they wander the island eating cactus blooms and hibiscus flowers. It is a very laid-back and relaxing holiday away from the stresses of traffic, tourists and the theme-park mayhem you encounter elsewhere in Florida!
Our beaches are pristine, with no seawalls. There are no riptides or drop-offs and our beach is safe for even tiny swimmers. There are no lifeguards, however, so your children will need supervision on the beach.

What a great 4th of July week at LGI!! This has been our 3rd stay on LGI and our 2nd at Coconut Hideway. I can't say enough about how much I just love this place! Growing up on Long Island, NY we practically lived at the beach. Being on LGI brings back all those wonderful beach memories. The island is the perfect pace for those who just want to leave it all behind and just enjoy the beauty of the place. Buddy & Laurie have made their home so warm and comfortable. Makes you feel like you never want to go back home! Some of my favorite things about Coconut Hideway:
1. The house! Filled with such a fascinating assortment of collectibles and a shell collection like no other! Buddy & Laurie have made their home so unique and personal. It's not like any other place we've stayed.
2. The outdoor shower! Nothing beats walking up from the beach and being able to rinse off right outside. We didn't use the shower in the house once! The outdoor shower is filled with shampoo bottles and soaps and everyone just loves the convenience of it.
3. The shell collecting and the fabulous long walks along the beach.
4. The completely laid back feel of the island.
5. Napping on the hammocks on the porch and outside.
6. The fact that you can pack for a week in a very small carry on! Nothing but bathing suits & a pair of shorts/t-shirts & P.J.'s here! Leave the make up and hair stuff back home!
It's a great place to bring your families and unwind and enjoy! Without hesitation I would highly recommend staying at this wonderful beach home.

I've been here a few different times, and I'm always sad to leave. It is the island get away that so many resorts promise you...but this is the real thing! The beach is very secluded, and the people you do meet are very friendly. And you don't sacrifice comfort at all...the house is gorgeous and is the perfect place to relax in a hammock on the porch after a day in the sun. Pack light as there's not much you need to bring other than your swimwear and groceries! Sometimes vacations seem to add more stress-not here! Would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to really relax..great for families or a romantic getaway.

We have been vacationing on LGI for over 12 years since our children were just babies. We have had the opportunity to stay in a few other homes on the island but we just keep coming back to Coconut Hideway. What makes Coconut Hideaway special is its charm, location and owners who are gracious, warm and welcoming. Buddy and Laurie thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us and for the lifetime of memories it has created!! See you next year!!
