Additional Location Information

Assynt is one of the Highlands and Islands area’s most unspoiled and spectacular regions and the village of Drumbeg is a (tourist board) designated scenic viewpoint, nestling between the mountains, a large freshwater loch (Loch Drumbeg) and the Atlantic Ocean, affording magnificent views across Eddrachillis Bay. Drumbeg is 2.5 hours drive from INVERNESS and 1 hour drive from ULLAPOOL. It is situated roughly halfway along the Lochinver – Kylesku B869 coastal road, listed in Peter Irvine's Scotland The Best as one of the 20 most scenic routes in Scotland. This road is single track with passing places (not for the novice driver!). The village has an award-winning local shop, Drumbeg Stores, a characterful pub (at the local hotel) and a tea garden/craft shop. There is excellent hiking and fishing within walking distance and the area is increasingly popular as a hidden haven for kayaking and canoeing. In addition to its spectacular coastline, the area contains many magnificent mountains (Suilven, Canisp and Quinaig are all nearby) and some 240 lochs which provide what is often described as the most authentic wild brown trout fly fishing in Britain. The area is ideal for a "get away from it all" holiday.
