BoroughBase lurks tranquilly In the shadow of the Shard, Europe's tallest habitable structure, and 10min walk to the river, the remains of Shakespeare's Rose theatre as well as the rebuilt Globe and attractions including the historic Borough Market, these days offering organic artisanal produce alongside foodie restaurants.

Even closer to hand, numerous old-style pubs provide hearty lunchtime and evening meals plus traditional ales. Some of those nearby have a beer garden.

For City workers the Bank of England is a 15min or so walk. Lovers of West End theatre, music and dining can reach Charing Cross (with Covent Garden and Soho beyond) on foot in under half an hour.

The end of the street is served by a 24-hour bus and is surrounded by a handful of underground stations including Northern (both branches), Bakerloo and Jubilee lines.

Daily provisions are available from two mini-supermarkets (Co-op and Tesco) within about 100 yards/metres of the door, each of which is usually open until 11pm.

Response from the owner To provide a bit of perspective: The shower head stands nearly 6ft 9in (205cm) above the base of the bath. I'm 6ft 4in and use it without problems. Shower curtains have since been replaced but were in any event fully able to enclose the internal oval of the bath. The bathroom floor is tiled, with concrete under, so any splash water can easily be mopped. The guests were told some days before arrival that the washer-dryer had just failed, with the offer instead to do a load of laundry for them (Ellie ended up doing three). A new machine has meanwhile been installed. I'm at the flat now and, though detecting no pervading mustiness, have cleared some old cardboard packaging from the understair storage vault at the front door in case that might have been the cause. Although severe asthmatics might in general be better advised to book a modern air-conditioned hotel room when travelling, I too have a history of asthma but have never suffered when here.

“Fantastic location”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2015

We had a great stay at BoroughBase, such a owrfect location near the Borough Markets which are a must see. James was very helpful with all our arrangements and Fernando, who met us with the keys was very informative as well. The flat is small so would only be suitable for two people, but was all we needed as we were out exploring most of the time. The location is quiet and has no street noise what so ever, which is a huge bonus.
