Where a winding country path known as ‘Green’s Lane’ once transported farm produce to nearby hamlets, today stands one of the world’s most famous street markets. Glancing beneath the surface, however, you will notice that Portobello Road today is so much more than simply a market. The distinctive energy, character and cosmopolitan atmosphere will captivate you while you admire the rows of Victorian terraced houses. Art and creativity fill the air, testament to the brilliant street art that brings a smile to those looking for it. While the 2 mile market is of course one of its most dazzling features, restaurants, cafes and pubs have evolved to fit the same unique dynamic.
Living and Eating Spaces
In keeping with the artistic nature of the neighbourhood your new home has a modern and light interior, fashionably decorated and well equipped for a self- catered stay in London. As you step inside notice the infinity mirror on your left as it welcomes you to your new home. Venture further to find a kitchen with breakfast bar and all the mod cons you would expect. Enter the separate living room and kick off your shoes to enjoy the exquisitely soft rug. There’s a coffee table and a small dining table in the corner, as well as a few sofas to flop on in front of an ornamental fireplace. Although you are actually on Portobello Road itself, your entrance is through a courtyard at the back of the house, and the apartment is spared much of the hustle and bustle that goes on outside.
Beds and Baths
Find two bedrooms; the larger of the two is stylishly finished with a double bed and a large mirror fronted wardrobe. The second has a single bed with an optional pull out trundle to accommodate another person.
The bathroom is modern and fitted with a bath and built in shower, a toilet and a basin. This room was not forgotten by the designer and is chicly finished.
Access and Suitability
The dynamics of this home make it perfect for a couple in search of a romantic base in the heart of a trendy and exciting area of London, or equally for families. Access is the second floor as this is a top floor flat, please note that there is no elevator.
When you are ready to venture out you are perfectly nestled close to the bustling Notting Hill Streets. Foodies will delight in the abundance of options on your doorstep. From the unique Electric Diner to the classic Italian Mediterraneo you are surrounded by fantastic eateries. You are also only a 10 minute bus ride from the incredible Westfield shopping centre at Shepherd’s Bush that is packed with some of London’s best restaurants and shops.
Perhaps you will spend the day exploring the eclectic and bustling Portobello Road, which you can join literally from your very doorstep. Originally a lane leading to Portobello Farm, its sides now burst at the seams with antiques, vintage fashion stores and bakeries. And if it is markets you are after, this area boasts some of the world’s best-loved stalls. The Portobello Green Fashion Market runs Thursday through to Sunday. Or head to Golborne Road for tempting food produce in the week, and first class bric-a-brac and second hand items at the weekend. Wandering down the colourful streets, it is not surprising that the area is home to many literary and bohemian festivals including the soulful Notting Hill Carnival in August and the Notting Hill International Book Festival in April.
If you want to go further afield you are ideally located a few minutes walk from Ladbroke Grove station, which is on the Hammersmith and City Line. With just one change at Paddington from here you can easily go to Kensington, the West End or Regents Park. A slightly further walk will take you to Notting Hill Gate Station that is well connected on both the District and Circle Lines and also the Central Line.
Don’t forget you’re within walking distance of the magnificent Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, perfect for a morning stroll (or run for the more energetic). Take a picnic under one of Hyde Park’s magnificent Oak trees. Watch the roller-bladers slalom through some cones, or rent a rowing boat and test your speed on the magnificent Serpentine.
Finally, you may not want to spend the whole day here but if you are passing by and find yourself caught short, London’s most architecturally renowned public toilets are quite an experience in themselves. Aptly named the ‘Turquoise Island’, since their design in 1993 by modernist architect Piers Gough, they operate as half florist, half-toilet and quite a focal point of the area. The florist in question, Nikki Tibbles, defeated 70 rivals to win this spot, interestingly her other shop sites include Harrods and Liberty of London.

Set in the heart of thriving Notting Hill, the vibrant Portobello Road draws visitors from around London to its daily street markets and restaurants, you could spend the whole of your vacation here alone and eat in a different spot every meal. Jamie Oliver's favourite fish bar, George's, is right opposite the flat. The renowned Golborne Road antiques market is 20 yards away. Nearby Ladbroke Grove tube brings the city centre within easy reach and constant buses bring you right to Notting Hill Gate's central line station.
