With past residents including Princess Diana, Freddie Mercury and Alfred Hitchcock, Earls Court has a cornucopia of cultural offerings for even the most discerning of visitors. This highly desirable London district is a hop skip and jump away from Kensington Gardens, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. After a mooch around these milieus, retire to Coleherne Road and grab at drink at one the many upscale watering holes. Then retire to this one bedroom, one bathroom hideaway and get cosy around the sitting room’s tangerine ottoman.
Out of Africa
Your host was born and raised in West London but her work and wanderlust have seen her travel all over the world. She runs a foundation for social entrepreneurs in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and these influences team through the home’s interior design. Loving theatre and music, she’s well catered for by the West End’s bright lights.
Step inside this one bedroom beauty and be greeted by a large sitting and dining room, where world-inspired flourishes meet super-sleek retro design. Spend a few minutes padding the polished, dark wood flooring and admire the eastern wall hanging, African drums and the black and white photography collection. Then take a book from one of the huge bookcases and be transported to another world as you curl up on a vintage armchair. If you’re feeling a little world-weary, brew a hot coffee in the boutique kitchen with its immaculate worktops and graphite storage units, and relax in front of the flat screen TV.
When the sun dips behind the trees it’s time for a tropical rain shower under the high-end bathroom’s wide shower-head. Over in the master bedroom, unwind on the chaise longue before the tall, sash windows, then get between the sheets of the king sized bed and drift away to dreamland.
The road less travelled
Coleherne Road is surrounded by restaurants, bars and parks a-plenty, with Radcliffe Square Gardens and Earls Court Square just around the corner, and the bustle of Old Brompton Road on the doorstep. Tourist favourites such as High Street Kensington, Hyde Park and the Museums are all within walking distance, while central London in 20 minutes via the nearby Earls Court underground station.
