Sloane Square is surely one of the finest spots in London. Designed in 1771, it’s the home of the Royal Court Theatre and Peter Jones, one of the city’s most venerable department stores. Trees, red pillar boxes and even a fountain provide the most English of atmospheres to this, the area that bridges swinging King’s Road and the glitz of Knightsbridge. And just one minute away, you’ll find Sloane Gardens II, an Edwardian home with modern sensibilities, looking out over mature gardens. With its tranquil atmosphere and neutral tones, once inside it’s very hard to believe that there’s so much so close to your own front door.
Balance and composure
Your hostess and her family divide their time between London and Hong Kong, and you’ll notice a number of Asian artefacts scattered around Sloane Gardens II.
Come in, put down your shopping, and choose between two equally alluring rooms. Will it be wide drawing room, cloaked in a combination of creams? Nestle on the couch, or try the Eames chair – there’s no better spot from which to enjoy the Sky TV. Or, try the open plan kitchen/ living space, where you can dine in the bay window, with views out onto the gardens below. The kitchen’s glossy, with granite surfaces and a breakfast bar for up to six, and when dinner’s over, lie back and digest upon the leather sofa.
There’s a super king-sized four-poster bed standing proud in the master suite, and doors opening out onto the pretty patio garden. The slick ensuite has a walk-in shower and his and hers basins, as well, of course, as our White Company toiletries. The second double also has its own ensuite, and a collection of vintage rugby balls!
Back to it
Mere moments from the cafes, restaurants and designer stores of King’s Road, and just a short walk from glamorous Knightsbridge, Harrods, and Harvey Nics, this spot really has it all. If shopping’s not your thing, visit the Saatchi Gallery or Cadogan Hall, peruse fresh breads and delicious delicacies at the Saturday market in Duke of York Square, or go instead to Green Park and Buckingham Palace. You're also right next to the river, so take a leisurely wander along the Embankment down to Westminster. Or, take the tube from Sloane Square to Oxford Circus and the West End in around ten minutes.
