For all London’s lovely parks and commons, there are few sights as sweet as the classic garden square. Secretly squirreled away in Earls Court, Lexham Gardens is a beauty. Dotted with arbours and fountains, the flowerbeds are faintly dappled with stray shafts of sunshine while fluting birdsong carries to the townhouses across the way... in one of which waits this bright and modern home. The gardens may be communal, but inside everything is all yours – the pretty patio, the sociable sitting room and immaculate bedrooms. And, whether it’s Kensington’s shops, the grand museums or Hyde Park, they may as well be in your own back yard.
Your jet-setting hosts split their time between London, Bath, Paris and Monaco. She is a GP, while he is a CFO in a multinational company. They love roaming around their local art galleries, and their children can’t get enough of the museums.
The gracefulness of this garden square is only rivalled by the majestic, pillar-porched townhouses all around it. You may have the key for that secret garden jingling in your pocket, but for now head into this elegant abode. On the basement level but brilliantly bright, all is modern and smart. The entrance hall flows into the main living area, where you’ve two inviting sofas on which to sprawl, as well as a coffee table to rest that refreshing glass. Clean lines, white walls and warm wooden floors lend a restful note, although the dining table and banquette are quite suitable for the liveliest dinner parties. The kitchen is shiny and wholly up-to-date.
You’ve two lovely bedrooms – the twin is fresh and full of daylight, while the master boasts a king bed, clean lines and an ensuite. Both bedrooms open onto the charming, whitewashed patio, where you can clink wineglasses before turning in. You’ve also a gleaming bathroom hung with our fluffy white towels.
Turn one way to be among the boutiques and cocktail bars of Kensington, turn the other to explore the pubs and eateries of Earls Court. You can stroll in the not-so-secret gardens of Holland and Hyde Parks or picnic by the picturesque Serpentine. The museums of South Ken are within minutes, as are the musical masters at the Albert Hall. The tube from High Street Kensington to Oxford Circus takes under twenty minutes.
