It’s also ideally situated, a short walk brings you to the green expanse of Clapham Common and the Northcote Road market and high street, here you will find shops and stalls offering a plethora of local produce, as well as a wide variety of pubs, restaurants and boutiques.
Your host is a Frenchman, a property consultant who gutted this home and did it up from scratch. His two children are now grown up, and this house is his baby. It was designed to his bespoke (and very high) standards.
You’ll gasp and sigh in wonder as you explore this house, with all its clever features. It’s as though the house itself is thinking about your comfort. Seamless inset doors open up to create an open plan kitchen and dining area, or can be closed to create a cosy nook. A single bedroom turns into a double should you need it to be, with a desk that pulls out to give extra storage space. In the master bedroom, the bed is sheltered with three electrically operated skylights, and there is a “smartglass” window separating the bedroom from the ensuite. Flick a switch and the glass takes on a misty haze. Genius. And if all that wasn’t quite smart enough for you, perhaps you’d like to know that this is a green house, with solar hot water.
Of course, intelligence should be carried with grace and style. Sleek, minimalist white walls are serenely matched with wooden floors and adorned with beautifully framed art. And every room has a sash window, so the house is sunny throughout.
Nestled between Wandsworth and Clapham Commons, there’s no shortage of green space in this area. This pretty and thriving Battersea hub offers a village feel, with its gastropubs, Michelin-star restaurant and lovely boutiques and antiques shops. And if you need to get into town, the West End’s only 20 or so minutes away by train.
