This light, elegant apartment is in one of Notting Hill’s most venerable buildings, all grandeur and white pillars. Inside, it’s newly refurbished, and the look is chic and modern. And in among the fashionably minimalist rooms, you’ve just a sprinkling of the exotic – Moroccan tiles, a curvaceous iron sculpture, a weathered cabinet in deepest lapis. You’ve a pretty garden of your own, and a larger communal area, ideal for hide and seek. Wend your way through Notting Hill’s verdant lawns to Holland Park, to Westbourne Grove for hip bars and gastropubs, or over to Portobello Road Market, where you may just pick up a few precious pieces of your own…
Your hostess spent many years as an art director, and now she’s a design consultant for Victoria’s Secret. She resides here with her thirteen-year-old son, and they love travelling together, and deciding what to bring back to decorate their home.
Expect the unexpected
The creativity of your hostess shines through every room, each with its own subtle sense of drama. The spotlit sitting room glows in scarlet and ice white, with shelves of books and a luxuriant leather sofa. There’s a brand new kitchen alongside, with glossy units concealing a range of helpful appliances and seating at a wide breakfast bar. With doors opening out onto the garden, it’d be a shame to stay inside, though, especially as you can picnic on the AstroTurf lawn without fear of grass stains.
The master bedroom is pure elegance, the glass chandelier glowing like a handful of rubies against the alabaster walls. The second double is similarly simple, and younger guests will enjoy the shelves of books and awesome intergalactic toys. And then there’s the bathroom - lie back amidst our White Company bubbles and admire the wall of tiles, commissioned by your hostess in Marrakech and shipped all the way back to London.
Voyage of discovery
Like your new home, Notting Hill combines grace with eccentricity; be it a visit to swinging Westbourne Grove or a stroll through magnificent Kensington Gardens. Come Saturday mornings, rise early for Portobello Road Market, and if you can’t quite tear yourself away come lunchtime, sate your hunger on a cupcake from the Hummingbird Bakery. And if you want to visit the West End, the journey from Ladbroke Grove to Oxford Circus takes around twenty five minutes.
