London is a world city with an urban edge. The sounds, the lights, the busy streets… it’s exhilarating. But at the end of the day, you’ll be yearning for the soothing caress of a home that’s as calming as it is gentle.
Step forward Westwick Gardens, a spacious retreat from the rough and tumble outside. With interiors mixed and matched from the modern and the antique, and a colour palette that’s reminiscent of a desert trolly, you’ll feel utterly cosseted. And with one of Europe’s largest shopping centres just round the corner, we’re sure that you’ll soon be putting your recharged batteries to very good use.
Your young hostess works for a much-loved charity. When she’s not fundraising, she’s often to be found out in the countryside, indulging her love of horse riding. She’s a spontaneous soul, apt to throw a dinner party - or repaint her sitting room – at a moment’s notice!
The sitting room of Westwick Gardens is airy, the tall windows spilling their sunlight down onto honeyed wood floors, enticingly soft furniture, and an original fireplace that twinkles with fairy lights. Head through to the south-facing dining room, where the table seats six, or next door to the compact kitchen, with its balcony overlooking the garden. You can access your outdoor space via a trip down the delicately wrought spiral staircase, or from the mocha-coloured guest double bedroom downstairs, with its framed comic book strips and retro radio.
The master bedroom’s pale and pretty, with original shutters and a beautiful floral headboard. But it’s the bathroom that’s the star of the show. Pull the tasselled cord to light up a fabulously feminine space, shaded in dusky lilac, with an intoxicatingly adorable antique mirror. Open up your bundle of White Company toiletries and retire to the tub for a well-deserved soak.
Rough with the smooth
Your first port of call simply has to be Westfield. The second largest shopping centre in Europe, you’ve shops to suit every taste and budget, all within a handful of minutes from your front door. There are oodles of bars and restaurants, too, and even a cinema, so if the rain does fall, your spirits needn’t follow. You’ve all sorts of local eateries and pubs to explore, and Shepherd’s Bush is tantalisingly close to the snazzy nightlife of Notting Hill. Or hop on the tube and zip into town, you’ll be there in less than twenty minutes.
