This home truly is picture perfect. Outside, the stately Georgian frontage is irreproachably dashing, but it’s the interior beauty of Caroline Terrace that makes onlookers stare from eyes round with awe. Paintings of the most fabulous description festoon the walls, and you’ll appreciate the finer shades, too. Uncover a fragrant garden straight out of Constable, and watch the sunlight illuminate the rich hues of the lush family room. Of course, only by stepping out of the frame can you see the whole picture, and when you do you’ll find the buzzy streets of Chelsea present a truly enthralling landscape, too...
Your hostess is a busy mother of two boys, who divides her time between London and a bolt-hole in the wilds of Norfolk. The entire family have an expert eye for artwork, and have made their home as fascinating as any gallery, but with the comfort to match.
You’ll soon realise that the paintings aren’t the only works of art in this home. The sitting room is a masterpiece of traditional furnishings accented with imaginative splashes of colour, while the balcony is a leafy sun-trap you’ll instantly want to be ensnared by. Head down to the family kitchen, made delicious by tasty yellow and greens, or find the still more vibrant family room. The sofas are delightfully squashy, while books aplenty and a huge TV will surely occupy minds of every age. The garden waits outside – cool, calm, and canopied with green.
Upstairs you’ll find the master bedroom, a peaceful collage of texture, light, and more wonderful paintings, with a sumptuous superking-size bed the focal point. Its sizeable ensuite is all magnificent marble and brilliant white towels. A boys’ bunk bedroom is on the second floor, boasting books and a print of Lichenstein’s renowned ‘Blam!’ pop art. A further bathroom and coolly colourful single bedroom complete the picture.
Chelsea is a rich and varied tapestry. Do some couture shopping along the boutiques of King’s Road, or simply kick back with a coffee and croissant in one of its elegant cafes. Battersea Park is a stroll over the Thames, while the museums of South Kensington will fascinate as surely as educate. The Royal Court Theatre is around the corner, and just the place to see some new writing. You can be in Oxford Circus in a little over ten minutes from nearby Sloane Square tube station.
