The family that walks beneath Montagu Square’s stunning, stuccoed ceilings adores the village living of Marylebone, a London district where old English charm is complimented by metropolitan convenience. Soak up the charming period mansion blocks, antiques bric-a-bracs, coffee houses and designer clothes shops, then venture beyond to the bustle of the city centre. After a turnabout central London, retire to this characterful pied-a-terre. There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms and some beautifully manicured communal gardens to discover.
All you need is love
Your hosts are an architect and a fashion agency owner, and their aesthetic flare courses through every room of this much-loved Georgian townhouse. From the original floorboards and archways to the hand-picked vintage furniture, every inch of space has been designed to create a stunning yet comfortable home for themselves and their two children.
Magical mystery tour
John Lennon once lived on this very road, and Montagu Street is fit for a legend from the start, as it opens into an expansive sitting room. Tinkle the ivories in the light of the vast bay window, or pull a 1950s vintage chair before the original mantelpiece. Pad the much-coveted, early 19th century wooden flooring through to the kitchen-diner, with its high end appliances, super-slick work tops and spot-lit ceiling. Take a deep breath of baroque in the lower ground floor’s master bedroom, with its ornate sofa and sumptuous king sized bed. In the master bathroom next door, feel the smooth curve of an avant-garde Perspex chair against your skin, or take a hot shower in the enormous, glass-walled, walk-in shower.
Meanwhile, it’s playtime over in the bunk bedroom, where toys line the shelves. The double bedroom down the hall is awash with children’s books and whimsical flourishes, and an original fireplace at one end. The family bathroom between the children’s rooms is a triumph of contemporary design, with clean lines and an orange-panelled bath.
Ticket to ride
Entertain yourself in Marylebone Village by simply wandering the streets and soaking up the affluent atmosphere and unspoilt architecture. Those with more of an appetite will enjoy the tantalising array of designer clothing boutiques, artisan delicatessens and bakeries, and cultural curiosities such as Madame Tussauds and the Wallace Collection. The bright lights of Oxford Street are just a ten minute walk away.
