Style, good looks and that indefinable something that lingers long in the mind’s eye… They don’t come around often. But Bridge View has stardust in spades. Elegant proportions stand lean and lovely in crushed velvet and gilt, while beneath the spotlights, the modern furniture is a study in the beauty of understatement. You’re just a quick strut from the Thames, and all sorts of enchanting riverside pubs. Turn the other way for Hammersmith, where you’ve an enormous array of restaurants and shops. Or just stay in and enjoy the tranquillity of your courtyard garden – and leave the drama at the front door.
Treading the boards
Your hosts are actors, whose work often takes them over to New York and LA. They’re film fanatics, with one of the best DVD collections we’ve seen. When they’re not transfixed by the flickering cinema, they’re out on the Thames towpath, walking their two hounds.
Quiet on set
Architect-designed and recently renovated, this spacious, peaceful home deserves its place on the A-list. The basement is entirely taken up by the enormous eat-in kitchen. Cook, socialise and relax beneath portraits of Steve McQueen and Audrey Hepburn, and you’ll find sofas and a large flatscreen TV alongside the dining table and funky breakfast bar. On balmier days, throw open the doors onto the garden, where mature plants and outdoor furniture will help you forget that you’re in the city. The sitting room is on the ground floor. Here, the ceiling’s high, the sofas are comfy and around the corner you’ll find a study area nestling up against a wall loaded with books.
The master bedroom is a minimalist masterpiece. With doors opening out onto the garden, there’s little else to distract from the super kingsized bed, dressed in our crisp white linen. Discover the ensuite, chic in natural stone, with his and hers sinks and a powerful shower. There are two single bedrooms (one of which can be transformed into a double) and a fashionably muted family bathroom. The final double seems to float upon its sky blue rug, and the white walls are enlivened by the prettiest floral blind.
You can catch some of the world’s biggest bands at the Hammersmith Apollo, and see the stars of the future at the Riverside Studios. Then sip a pint overlooking the river or check out Hammersmith’s cosmopolitan cuisine and lively shops. And when that red carpet calls, the tube from Hammersmith to Leicester Square takes less than twenty minutes.
