Join the jet set in a home that’s as swish as it is sophisticated. This is modern living for modern people, and the tech’s as high as the spec. There’s a rough-edged urban feel to the wood floor, while the furniture combines heft with just a hint of the fifties. Sip your espresso in one of the cafes of Old Brompton Road, or walk a little further to investigate the designer boutiques and decadent restaurants of Kensington High Street. Whether it’s new sunnies or the perfect brogues, those who usually refresh their wardrobes in Paris and Milan will find their suitcases considerably heavier on the flight home.
Your carefree host works in the travel industry, and he’s constantly on the move. He’s Greek, Canadian Dutch and Swiss, and settled in the UK after coming here for his studies. A posterboy for Generation Y, he’s savvy, energetic and riotously cool.
The sitting room of Westgate Terrace II is bang on trend, with a futuristic fireplace, and shelving in sleek teak. Perhaps you’ll flick on the enormous TV, or maybe you’d rather investigate your host’s selection of art books, or crack open the latest edition of Wallpaper*. The lighting’s hip, the steel dining table seats six and if the furniture’s contemporary, the large windows are entirely original. As you’d expect, the kitchen’s brand new, and best of all is the second floor balcony. Here you’ll find comfy outdoor furniture and even a barbeque, making it the ideal spot to enjoy the last of the evening light with a glass of prosecco.
Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, a bright white double, enlivened with vintage travel advertisements, and a sumptuous master suite. Replicating the feel of a five star hotel, the bed’s kingsized, the headboard mighty in brushed suede, and you’ll enjoy sinking into Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona chair. The ensuite features an egg-shaped bath and a walk-in shower. There’s a further bathroom down the hall, wickedly fashionable in weathered grey slate.
You’re midway between Kensington and Chelsea, and you’ve a choice – will it be the boutiques and bars of King’s Road or Kensington High Street? Either way, you’ll be spoiled rotten by the fabulous array of entertainment on offer, and closer to home, you’re surrounded by quiet garden squares and pretty independent cafes. And as cocktail hour approaches, jump on the tube at Earls Court. The journey to Green Park takes just ten minutes, so you can be putting on the Ritz in almost no time at all.
