If you’re seeking star quality, there are few bigger talents in town than Notting Hill. Bold, brash and irrepressibly buzzy, it brings in crowds as surely as it leaves the critics purring. Supported by a candy-coloured cast of tasty townhouses, Lancaster Road is our budding breakout star. Tucked on the top two floors, sunshine dazzles every delightful detail of this apartment, from the kitchen’s coolly modern gloss to the ravishing textures of the vintage sitting room. And, with a roof terrace naturally bathed in stardust, you can savour the whole show from the comfort of that deckchair…
Working in television as a talent producer, your host’s brushes with the rich and famous can be glimpsed in the many photographs scattered around Lancaster Road. Her main base is in the New Forest, but she loves the colour, charisma and characters to be found in Notting Hill.
A big sash window bundles sunshine into the kitchen, every ray of which glints from the sleek, modern surfaces and zingy feature wallpaper. Start the day with a smoothie sipped at the breakfast bar, before settling into the sitting room upstairs. Every surface sings with colour and texture, from the original floorboards to patterned rugs and sofas. Plump the cushions and ensconce yourself with a paperback plucked from the well-stocked shelves, before heading up past the stylish study onto the roof terrace.
Behind a sweetly weathered door lies the bright master bedroom, where you’ve a squashy window seat perched below some marvellous French shutters. The double is comfy-cosy, while the bathroom wears a pearly glow – as will you after a turn with our scrummy White Company toiletries.
The next big thing
Villagey, yet coolly cosmopolitan, Notting Hill has stardust in spades. Follow the ice cream-clad houses round to Portobello Market, where you’re sure to have your appetite whetted by the wares on offer. The vibrant All Saints Road abounds with designer labels, art galleries and bars, while the Michelin-starred Ledbury is just one of many restaurants serving delicious dishes in the neighbourhood. You’re close to Kensington Gardens and Holland Park, while the bright lights of Oxford Circus are twenty minutes away on the tube.
