Step through the front door and you’ll find yourself in a world of homemade jam, of hand printed wallpaper, a world of flowers and birdsong and newly baked bread. Grace meets grandeur and cosiness combines with comfort in the elegantly pretty rooms, and there’s just a touch of magic to the tangled walled garden. You’re in one of the capital’s top dining destinations - The Ledbury and Ottolenghi are just two of the restaurants within an easy stagger. Lose yourself in Notting Hill’s garden squares, explore Portobello Road Antiques Market, or just stay in with a box of Hummingbird cupcakes and a pot of tea.
Home at last
Your British hostess spent a number of years working in Japan. Now, she’s back in the UK for good, and she and her children split their time between London and the Isle of Wight. She’s studying art at St Martin’s, and her creativity has infused itself through Ledbury Road III.
Snug as a bug
This home may be large, with two sitting rooms and an abundance of sleeping space, but floral prints, candy colours and acres of polished oak keep the atmosphere awfully sweet. The main sitting room is spacious and bright, its full-length windows opening out onto a small balcony, and squashy sofas arranged around the original fireplace. The downstairs sitting room is a little more informal, with its large TV and views out into the garden. The kitchen’s modern rustic, with gothic windows and high spec appliances, and eight can be seated upon the dining room’s raspberry red chairs. There are four bedrooms, some filled with toys and books, others scattered with antiques. The master bedroom holds a super kingsized bed and a lavish ensuite. And before you turn in for the night, take your nightcap down the spiral staircase and out into the walled garden, where the stars twinkle and pigeons murmur in the trees.
The big smoke is certainly close at hand, you can walk to Westfield, one of Europe’s largest shopping centres, or take the tube from Notting Hill Gate to Oxford Circus in eight minutes. First, though, we suggest a stroll in Kensington Gardens, followed by an afternoon nosing around the independent cafes and boutiques of Westbourne Grove – this truly is the ultimate London village.
