Here’s a home so theatrical you’ll want to shower it with bouquets. Richly costumed and perfectly cast, Cupar Road is the starriest of star turns. The sitting room is a feat of flamboyance, its sofas and wallpaper gold, its armchairs sugary pink, its florals and prints ashine in the sunlight. Here, each fireplace is an event, every texture begs to be stroked, and you can almost hear the bright colours fizzing like a flute of Bollinger. In the garden, razzmatazz can give way to relaxation, while children will cheer to the rafters at the toy-filled bedrooms. Outside, Battersea Park is perfect for that picturesque curtain call.
Your hosts have two young children and a loveable, lucky dog by the name of Jinx. Birthday photos in black and white line the dining room, telling of celebrations in London and New York.
Battersea Park dreams and rustles nearby, but inside all is drama and action. The sitting room is as bold as it is bright, with rich golden wallpaper, hot pink florals and armchairs blushing the deepest red. Nestle into a glamorous sofa and get a look at the vivid artwork, vivacious lamps and impressive period fireplace, or pluck a book and stretch out amid the striking striped wallpaper of the study. You’ll find the kitchen to be large and light. Here, sunshine plays on wooden surfaces and red accents, while the dining table seats eight. Outside, you’ve a patio for those light lunches or late dinner parties alike.
The master bedroom is airily sophisticated in white, with a dazzling round mirror, flamboyant bedside lamps and luxe ensuite complete with his-and-her sinks and stained glass door. You’ve also a flowery and flesh double with ensuite, a sparkling bathroom and two cool kid’s bedrooms, one girly, the other both boyish and blue.
However laden that hamper, picnickers will be in Battersea Park within moments. You’ve plenty of arty cafes and gastropubs on your side of the river, or you can nip over the bridge into Chelsea. The Kings Road is lined with boutiques and bars of the snazzy persuasion, and for something seriously theatrical, give the new writing at the Royal Court Theatre a try. You can be in the West End, home to many a playhouse, in just twenty minutes from Battersea Park station.
