Can you keep a secret? You’ll want to keep this one – all to yourself. Some little way from the bustle of Edgware Road, Molyneux Street II is a tucked-away treasure. Eastern influences are everywhere: here an Indian rug, there an antique gong, a Thai lamp, an exotic vase. If you’re not already consumed with curiosity, try stepping outdoors. Walled by period townhouses and bathed by the afternoon sun, its central courtyard is perfect for tea parties. And, when dusk settles, we suggest you do the same in the sweet, contemporary bedrooms. Or, head out to find the heart of town on your doorstep.
From India to Thailand, and now Marylebone, your hosts have lived their lives in all corners of the world. They have two daughters, one at theatre school, another a budding drummer, and a son who plays rugby in Regent’s Park.
Along an elegant street, this home is enchantingly quiet for one so central. Tread across honeyed floorboards into the sitting room and select from vintage armchair or cosy sofa for your morning coffee. An antique gong lends an exotic air, while the commodious kitchen mingles eastern touches with an impressively modern sheen. You’ve a large family table for eight, as well as that secret courtyard, which waits temptingly through double doors. With its wrought-iron chairs, nodding flowers and walls washed in yellow, it’s a real romantic hideaway – and ideal tea party setting.
Duck downstairs for the boyish basement double, with a drum kit and guitar. Upstairs, the master is an airy affair, bright and elegant. A freestanding modern bath and oodles of our White Company goodies are to be found in the bathroom, and you’ve two more single bedrooms – one girly, the other sweetly quaint. The top floor bathroom is terrifically tiled in iridescent blue.
All manner of Middle Eastern cafes and restaurants line Edgware Road, while Marylebone’s leisurely backstreets are flanked with the finest in boutiques. You can lollop around Hyde Park, picnic by the Serpentine or admire the artwork in the Wallace Collection. And when it comes to the West End, or Oxford Street’s stupendous shopping, you’re only a walk away. Or, hop on the tube at Edgware Road to arrive in seven short minutes.
