Great Place to Stay!

This has to be the best travel bargain in Baja! These Yurts (there are 4 of them) are cheap, clean, have indoor plumbing, cooking facilities, a fridge and are just a couple of blocks from the Sea of Cortez. There is a small store in town with limited hours, but the town of Las Barriles is just 3 miles away with lots of eating and shopping options. I highly recommend staying here. … see more

Teepees!

I stayed at Captain Nemo's in Los Barriles for 6 nights in late March. It was lovely in most all respects, especially for a new property. The teepee, so well priced, was very clean -- well, except for the dirt floor! nicely covered by mats -- the bed perfectly comfortable, kitchen and bathroom clean, and it's about 100 meters from the beach. The beach there is very rocky but totally secluded for that reason, and some pretty good snorkeling! And there's sandy beaches within half a mile or so -- and they get even sandier if you have a car and can go a little further. I was alone, and the property is small and quiet, and that was perfect. I made friends with both groups who stayed there while I did, bought groceries and beer in town (closest bodega type place about 1 mile away, supermarkets about 2 miles), and just hung out, swam, biked, walked... Los Barriles isn't exactly happening, but that's what I was looking for. I was without a car, which can be tough in Baja, but it was fine there without one, just a little extra work required. There are a couple of bikes for rent. Very convenient. Some suggestions? Baskets for the bikes (and maybe better seats), and a few other things for rent too (umbrellas, snorkels)...and maybe some more lounge-furniture around, for those lazy days and non kite-surfers. Anyway, I'm probably not the intended audience for this place (again, kite surfers!) but as a solo female traveler I nevertheless had a really lovely time. And Jeff and his staff were very helpful and available throughout my stay -- Jeff always gave information and help, even lent me a snorkel! I'll be back. … see more
