“A great way to experience New Orleans!” The Love Shack lives up to its name as I fell in love with the property, the hospitality, and New Orleans. I've never rented a property online but the owner put me at ease by taking the time to talk to me over the phone. I had never been to NOLA and it was my birthday. The owner made my stay very special having birthday decorations up when I arrived! The owner also made sure I knew where to go and what to do during my stay. The property was very clean with all the amenities you would expect... When I come back to New Orleans I definitely plan to stay at the love shack again.

It was clean, well-stocked with kitchenware, towels, and linens, air-conditioned, and super cute! The location was wonderful as well - quiet yet a quick uber ride to all that New Orleans has to offer! I will definitely stay here again! Thanks Marcelin!

Comfy 2 Bedroom Duplex

New Orleans house

  • 2 bedrooms
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 5

“HOME AWAY FROM HOME!!!” The duplex was located just a few minutes from the French Quarter, maybe 5 minutes I would say. Mrs. Verna stopped by on the day we arrived with lunch from Melbas and introduced herself. She told us she was just a street over if we needed anything not to hesitate. The duplex was clean and felt just like a home away from home. The fridge was stocked with drinks and the counters with baskets of snacks. Mrs. Verna goes ABOVE AND BEYOND to welcome her guests and make them feel comfortable. She is a very sweet woman and it was a pleasure meeting her and staying at her property. This was our first trip to New Orleans and when we go back we will stay with Verna again if possible, also we ate at Melbas 3 times after Verna brought over that lunch in the 5 days we were there. If you plan to stay at Verna's... Melbas is a must and I suggest call in or order online that place is super busy and for good reason. Thanks Verna we appreciated your hospitality and extending your rental to us... we hope to stay there again in the future.

“Wonderful stay” We rented both levels of this quirky home. Our family was in town for a wedding and this house fit us all. Furniture and beds all comfortable and plenty of towels. Kitchen had enough dishes, cutlery, etc. to make a meal if desired. We spent as much time as possible on the front porch. Note it will take 10 to 15 minutes by cab ($18 to $20) to get to the French Quarter. Also if you are using cabs or Uber call at least 1 hour ahead. Shortly after our arrival, Felicity came and introduced herself and made sure we had everything we needed, A very nice touch.

The Black Diamond ... Chill in the pool!

New Orleans cottage

  • 1 bedroom
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 2

“Perfection in Marigny!” The house is perfect. The pool is perfect. The tropical garden surrounding the pool is perfect. The little family of chickens, the sweet chihuahua, and cats is perfect (friendly and quiet). The towels and sheets are perfect. The owners are perfect - friendly and warm and welcoming and helpful. The homemade soaps and shampoos (by the owner) are perfect. I didn't get to sample, but Ann even left eggs from the chickens in the fridge! The location is perfect. I know I keep using the same word, but seriously there is no reason to look any further at vacation homes in New Orleans. Stop here, book the Black Diamond, and then count the days until you can chill out in that garden pool with a drink and the company of Ann, Tom, Dot, Lulu, and Buddha. You won't regret it.

About Louisiana

Pocketed between the Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi and Texas, Louisiana is a dynamic southern state with a mash of cultures. Southern Louisiana is the main attraction for vacationers and culture vultures. Strong French, Latino, and Caribbean influences can be seen throughout Louisiana, especially in Acadiana and New Orleans. While at one time there were two distinct forms of cooking, Cajun and Creole, the two have been merged into a tantalizing mixture that no foodie can resist. Dishes like spicy jambalaya, grilled catfish and dirty rice are staples in the unique restaurants of this lively state.

Some of Louisiana's must-see attractions and activities include:

  • New Orleans: The city's unofficial motto is "laissez les bons temps rouler," or "let the good times roll," and it sums up this vibrant city quite well. One walk through the affluent French Quarter, where sweet jazz melodies abound, and you will be hooked on this sultry city. It's an ideal base for romantic getaways in Louisiana. The New Orleans area is also home to two Louisiana National Parks and a multitude of Louisiana aquariums, if you're looking for outdoor or family-oriented activities.
  • Avery Island: This famous island is actually a dome of salt. Avery Island is home to the McIlhenny Tabasco Sauce factory and an enormous nature preserve that showcases the flora and fauna native to Louisiana's bayou country.
  • Sicily Island Hills: Home to the state's tallest waterfall, the Sicily Island Hills are located in the northern part of Louisiana. This tranquil paradise is an ideal venue for mountain biking, hiking and bird watching, and the surrounding area is home to some of the most unique Louisiana campgrounds.
  • Natchitoches: Another great destination for romantic getaways in Louisiana, this historic mid-state city has its own French Quarter and some of the state's most striking architecture, offering a quieter but equally unique alternative to New Orleans.
  • Plantation country: The stretch of Great River Road spanning New Orleans and Baton Rouge is colloquially known as "plantation country," and offers a look into the state's colorful and storied past.

The Mardi Gras festival, held every March in New Orleans, is the ideal time to visit if you've never been to Louisiana before.

For your accommodations, consider a vacation rental such as a condo if you're in the city or a cabin rental if you want closer to the bayou. These choices make more convenient, spacious and private alternatives to getting a hotel room and are ideal for families, groups and couples alike.

Louisiana is bordered by Arkansas, Texas and Mississippi to the north, west and east respectively, and all three states offer their own unique slice of southern life to visitors. The warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico beckon beyond the state's southern shores, so you can enjoy a relaxing cruise or head down to the Caribbean quickly and easily.

Beautiful condo steps from the quarter!

Awesome spot! Literally close to everything and we felt safe the whole time. The condo itself was wonderful and had everything you need. Most importantly the beds were very comfortable and the showers were really nice. There were roku TVs in every room which was very convenient . My only complaint is, I wish there was a full length mirror somewhere in the condo….other than that it was perfect and I recommend it to anyone!see more
