Restored Farmhouse with Pool, 15 minutes from the Walled City of Lucca.
Treat yourself to life in the sunny Tuscan countryside. Our 4 bedroom holiday home complete with in-ground saltwater pool, fruit orchard, wood oven and grape vines is the perfect remedy to city life. Just a 15 minute drive to the historic center of Lucca, and one hour to Florence.
Originally a working farmhouse, La Capraia sits nestled on a 6 acre parcel of green olive groves and a small vineyard. It is flanked by a chestnut forest and a cool mountain stream. Life is slow and easy here. We wake to the sound of birds and we sleep to the sound of the cicadas.
Two walking trails into the woods depart from our property. Our patio features a wood oven stove and jasmine covered pergola with a long table for 8. Fire up the wood oven, roast a pig or make some fresh pizza, then eat, laugh and relax with friends and family.
At night, you'll never see so many stars in the sky, grab a lawn chair, sit back and watch the night spectacle unfold. Or walk down to the the local bar and pizzeria for some great pizza and beer. Red wine goes for just 60 cents a glass here.
In the morning, enjoy your cappuccinos on the patio with the birds singing and the sun rising high over the historic village of Partigliano. Plan your day trips to Florence, Siena, Lucca or Pisa, all in easy driving distance to La Capraia. Or spend the day at the farmhouse, picking fruit from our orchard, lazing by our new inground pool, or taking a leisurely walk in the surrounding countryside.
We are conveniently located just 1,5 km walk to the lively town of Valdottavo where you will find all the necessary conveniences, 15 minutes drive from the historic center of Lucca and 45 minutes drive from Pisa International Airport.

La Capraia is immersed in the green of the Lucca Hills, on a 6 acre parcel of farmland yet just a 15 minute drive to the walled city of Lucca and 45 minutes to Pisa airport. We are in walking distance of three villages. Valdottavo, the farthest of the three, is just under a 2 km tree shaded walk away and has a pizzeria/bar, caffe, green grocery, ATM, butcher and bakery. A fantastic holiday in this beautiful villa. Gina and her husband made us feel very welcome, giving us handy tips before we arrived as to what to do during our stay, and making sure we settled in. The farmhouse is in a very scenic location, and perfect for a quiet retreat. Access to Lucca is easy with a car (20 minute drive and parking is not difficult) but with the lovely pool and good weather there's not much need to go anywhere!
The kitchen is well equipped for cooking, but Gina also gave some great recommendations for places to eat out. The pool is lovely and well kept, and the bbq area is great for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just prosecco! The bedrooms are lovely and well presented, although it may be worth checking with Gina before you book as to what sort of combinations you require.

Quiet location and beautiful scenery. Car essential, make it small as road narrow. Close to all amenities and interesting places to visit. House furnished to a high standard, large swimming pool. Plumbing a bit old fashioned, probably due an upgrade. Friendly, attentive service received from owners

We arrived here at night-time, led from the village a few minutes' drive away by the owner, who welcomed us very warmly and had anticipated our hunger after a long journey by making us a big pot of pasta.Even prior to our arrival, Gina had been extremely helpful, replying to our queries promptly and fully. The following morning on opening the shutters we were amazed to see such beautiful views from every window of the house: over hills, woods and fruit trees, and also the lovely swimming pool where we spent a lot of time cooling off.
The house itself was clean, comfortable and well-equipped, and being an old farmhouse was full of charm and character. It was a pleasant walk down to the village to get groceries, and only a 15 minute drive to a large supermarket. The longest drive we undertook was to Florence (about an hour) and we also visited Pisa, Barga and nearby Lucca, and there are many other interesting places to see within easy reach of La Capraia.
We could have happily stayed here all summer: the only thing that bothered us initially was handling the single track road in a large left-hand-drive car, but after a couple of days of course you get used to it. If you want some peace and quiet around you, but to be able still to visit places of interest, then La Capraia is an excellent base and we would highly recommend it.
Peaceful setting close to local amenities. Fantastic pool in bea

The owners are very friendly and they made the booking process very easy. Their service is first class and we were made to feel very welcome. The property is well equiped and the rooms are huge. This did not feel like a rental property,it was more like being invited into a comfortable home and it was made clear that we were free to treat this as our own. This is without doubt the best stocked holiday rental that I have ever visited. The outside space is exceptionally large and the setting is beautiful. The pool is spotless, large and has an exceptional outlook over the valley. The local village is only minutes away by car and handy for essentials and a visit to Lucca, some 15 minutes away is a must.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this property, the owners are friendly and helpful and they made our visit so memorable. If you visit this property you will not regret staying at La Capraia

We arrived at 'La Capraia' in the dark after a 6 hour delay traveling from the UK and Gina kindly met us in the village to guide us to the house and had prepared food for us which was extremely kind and thoughtful. Waking the next morning to the most beautiful blue skies and the wonderful rural setting - we seemed to spend most of our time gravitating between the pool and the terrace. The younger members of our party (18 & 20) particularly enjoyed the library of TV shows and films. We Bbq'd most evenings and even managed to get the pizza oven fired up! We visited Lucca (which is wonderful - loads of restaurants/market)on a few occasions and hired bikes one evening from near the station and cycled around the walls stopping at one or two bars.We traveled to Florence on the train from Lucca station, takes just over an hour and gets you right into centre and 10mins walk from Duomo and other sites - we however always wanted to return to the tranquility of 'La Capraia'. We would very much recommend the property,a car is essential. Rob & Jane Kennedy

Gina and Michel could not have been more welcoming to our family. We arrived late on a Saturday night to be met by them in the local village of Valdottavo. Michel immediately organised a table for us to eat at one of the best pizza places we have ever been, whilst Gina took part of group up to the Villa where we were met by a spectacular light show put on by the Fireflies (for city people like us this was truly magical). In it's renovation, Gina has lost none of the original character of this place and has only enhanced it with beautiful fittings and furnishings alongside all the conveniences that you need for a family holiday in Tuscany. The location 20 mins outside Lucca is a great base to explore the North West of Tuscany. The views from the villa and particularly the pool are breathtaking. Travelling without a car is not an option and the windy roads to get to the villa are not for the fainthearted but who would come to Tuscany without being willing to drive and you have to go off the beaten track if you want to experience the true Italy. The locals who Gina and Michel introduced us to couldn't have been more welcoming - despite the language barrier we made great friends there and hope one day in the near future to return and make fools of ourselves again at the Italian Karaoke night in Fabios! If you are looking for a memorable and authentic Italian experience in Tuscany, I could not recommend a better place!
