Located just steps away from Madrid's emblematic center, the Puerta del Sol, this third floor, two-bedroom apartment belongs to Spain Select Carretas, an exclusive apartment building of eight Spain Select Signature Apartments. Spain Select Carretas is to all effects a new building, yet it maintains a perfectly restored traditional façade. Carretas 302 is a bright two bedroom apartment that has been professionally decorated and beautifully furnished. It incorporates original artwork and the lamps are original design pieces. The living room has one balconied window that overlooks the street below. Throughout, there are marble floors, which contrast nicely with the use of bold burgundy paintwork and matching decorative elements. The two double bedrooms are situated in the interior of the building and are very quiet. The décor throughout the apartment has been chosen by a professional interior designer, and it is bright and modern. Please note that whilst the building has an elevator, there is a small staircase before you reach the lobby . Spain Select Carretas puts Madrid's most important attractions within walking distance. In less than five minutes, visitors can step out of the apartment building and walk directly to the city's famous Plaza Mayor, the centrepiece of what is known as "old" or Austrian Madrid. Just beyond the Plaza, visitors can continue walking to the Royal Palace and the Cathedral of the Almudena. The Puerta del Sol is one of the most well-known and busiest places in Madrid. This famous square is where the clock hangs that rings in the New Year in Spain, prompting Spaniards to eat a grape for each of the twelve chimes. Next to this main square is the Preciados Shopping District, which includes several buildings that belong to the "El Corte Inglés" department store. Crowded with tourists and locals by day, the area is lively in the evenings as there are many restaurants, cafés and bars nearby. Just a short distance away is the Plaza de Santa Ana, where there are many terraces for outdoor dining. As the geographic centre of the city, the Puerta del Sol has excellent metro and bus communications, and the Atocha train station is a 15-minute walk or just three metro stops away.
Surface Area: 70 m2. Third floor. The entrance hall leads into a living / dining area with a balcony that faces out onto the street. It is furnished with a 3-seater sofa, a wooden coffee table, a shelving unit with an LCD TV, DVD player and a wooden dining table for four. Along the corridor, there are two double bedrooms: 1 double bedroom (queen-sized bed 1.60m x 1.90m) with fitted wardrobes and 1 twin bedroom (2 single beds 0.90m x 1.90m) without wardrobe. There is a bathroom with a walk-in shower. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigeratory / freezer, oven, 4-ring ceramic hob (stove), dishwasher, washing machine and a breakfast bar with two stools. There is an additional half-bathroom. There is marble flooring throughout the apartment, except for the bathroom and kitchen, which are tiled.

This is a clean, modern two bedroom, 1.5 bath apartment just a 1/2 block from Puerto del Sol. Everything was in good shape and fairly new. Very good a/C, important since it was august. We recommend it.

We had a very nice time in the apartment. It was nicely decorated and well located. The Spain Select staff were exceptionally responsive. The apartment was provided to us in a clean and orderly condition. The only real negative was that the apartment had a noticeable amount of wear and tear. For example, some of the dining room chairs were very loose, the toilet paper dispensers fell off the wall, and the bar on which the shower head rested was broken/detached. A secondary concern was that the second bedroom and bathrooms were bit tight, but that was really a minor concern. Overall I did want to highlight what a positive experience I had with the Spain Select staff. From the booking, to helping us with the logistics of our arrival, to helping us deal with our luggage, and to responding to a couple of minor issues (i.e., internet trouble and the problem with the shower) and he Spain Select staff were really outstanding. Extremely responsive, professional, and friendly. Thanks so much for helping us to have a terrific experience and trip!

This apartment has an ideal location for enjoying Madrid. You can stand on the balcony and see the metro stop in the plaza. You can walk to the Prado and the Royal Palace and most other Madrid sights. There are hundreds of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. You are right in the middle of everything !
The metro is easy to use and inexpensive. We used the metro from the airport to the apartment and to the train stations for day trips to Segovia and Toledo. We also used the trains for stays in Salamanca and Barcelona.
The apartment was clean and quite comfortable with all the amenities (soap, shampoo, etc.) of a hotel. The only slight drawback was that to use the internet on the 2nd floor I had to sit on the steps in the hallway for service. But I used a phone for it and only about 1/2 hour each day so it was not really inconvenient.

comfortable, clean, and a great location. Walking distance to all the major sites, very central. Just a couple of blocks to Plaza del Sol and Plaza Mayor. Safe and secure, fairly quiet at night. Extra room a little small for 2 adult kids but they survived and location made up for it. Enjoyed people watching from the balcony. Well priced for the benefits it offered.

Booking a rental on line let alone one that's out of the country can be a little scary, especially if you havn't done business with them before. In the months leading up to our trip I had numberous questions and Spain Select employees were awesome at getting back to me quickly. We felt so taken care of while we were there. We had 4 apartments in Carretas so there was bound to be a couple of issues, but Spain Select took care of them right away. The small flight of stairs that lead to the elevator was a bit much for 2 older people in our group, and some people may not like the noise coming from the street (for us that just added to the appeal of Madrid. The location was ideal. We loved being able to grocery shop for our equipped kitchens at the market El Corte Engles just down the street off of Puerta de Sol (Post Office in stores basement.) Plaza Mayor and all its quaint shops and outdoor restaruants just a short walk. A Metro station was right on the corner and within days we were comfortably manuvering around the city to all the places we wanted to see. I highly recommend the Mercado de San Miguel, just outside the north west corner of Plaza Mayor, you can spend hours in there buying bits to eat from each vendor stall and the prices arn't bad for Madrid standards. We would definetly stay at Carretas again and do business with Spain Select.

We saw the picture online and were a little skeptical that this apartment was so nice and so cheap. But when we got there, it was everything they had promised. The apartment layout is a bit strange, and the rooms a bit small, but it was nicely decorated, very clean, extremely comfortable, and right in the middle of the action in Madrid. Couldn't ask for a better stay!
