Maine, cozy cabin on pristine lake - Ledge Lodge

Sedgwick house

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Ledge Lodge Idyll” Staying at Ledge Lodge was one of best experiences we have ever had. The cabin is quite lovely; it is rustic but comfortable, cozy but not confining. It is well kept, clean, and provided with all the basics for cabin life, as well as amenities such as a nice dock, clean beach for swimming and beautiful views: the view out the front windows across Walker Pond is stunning! The owners take very good care of the cabin and are always cordial in responding if anything is needed. They have taken great care to make the cabin welcoming, attractive and comfortable. The pellet stove warms the cabin quickly on chilly mornings, and the fireplace provides an extra bit of coziness on cool rainy days. We could not have asked for a better experience, and we would rent the cabin again in a heartbeat. There are interesting towns nearby, Acadia National Park is an easy drive, and good shopping - including farmer's markets - is not far away. We have no hesitation in recommending this cabin, with the caveat that it is relatively small and would be most comfortable for 2-4 people.

Oar Island

Bremen cottage

3 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 8

“perfect” We love Oar Island. It is the perfect vacation place for families with children of different ages, or just a couple. There is hiking, sunning, relaxation, but mostly what we love about Oar Island is the isolation. It is an adventure as well, since the only way to get there is by the little motorboat. It is a getaway for certain kinds of people; but if you prefer the Marriott type of stay, this is not that kind, it is much more "out-doorsy".

Cliffside at Sandcliff by the Sea

Bar Harbor house

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“What gem we found!” My wife and I took our two adult daughters and their husband and boyfriend to Bar Harbor ME. Cliff side at Sandcliff by the Sea was the perfect place! The house is beautiful and spacious. We used the gas grill several times and enjoyed the gas fireplace on the deck tremendously. The location is excellent...close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We used the bus systems to explore the park. My youngest daughter and her boyfriend hiked over thirty miles of Acadia. The owner was fantastic to work with. We had a slight problem the first night but Bonnie took care of it immediately. I highly recommend this home. We gathered wild blueberries just behind the home and used them in our breakfast. Our favorite places to eat....popovers at Jordan's Pond, lobster rolls at the Side Street Cafe, BBQ at Mainely Meats with Atlantic Brewery tour, lobster dinner at Gaylin's. Beer at the Beerworks and karaoke. And of course warm blueberry pie ala mode and blueberry twist soft serve at C J's. The light house boat tour is well worth the time and money. We highly recommend this as your vacation destination

Lamb Cove Cottage(3 seasons, May - October)

Robbinston house

4 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 9

“Perfect!” Beautifully situated on the St. Croix River, Lamb Cove Cottage is comfortable and clean, with fresh lobsters on the doorstep, plenty of logs for the wood stove, and the knowledgeable, friendly Louis Bernardini as host. I've been there in summer and autumn--either is a fine time to hear the loons, savor the salt air, and watch the tides rise and fall. Highly recommended if you love simple pleasures on the real Maine coast.

Camden cottage near ocean and downtown.

Camden house

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 5

“Couldn't ask for more!” This rental cottage was extremely well equipped and spotless. The owners were very hospitable and were available for all our needs including questions concerning the Camden area. The lawn and gardens were well maintained. We spent many evenings sitting in the adirondack chairs on the front lawn and many mornings enjoying our coffee on the back deck. The location was ideal as we could walk into town to shop, sight see and sit by the harbor and watch the boats while enjoying an ice cream from a nearby ice cream shop. We were four senior citizens looking for a quiet, comfortable and friendly locale and we found it here. We all said we would definitely return to Camden and stay at this home-away-from-home again.

“Charming and relaxing” it was a great place to get away from the busy day to day of two career family with teens--we wanted a quiet and peaceful location-- it reminded us of our grandparents house charming and peaceful--just remember that means that it also has all the quirks of being old!

Edgewater waterfront 2 bedrooms 2 baths sunsets

Trenton cottage

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 4

“Seaside Heaven...” Edgewater is amazing! Fully stocked kitchen, very comfortable beds, clean as a whistle. At waters edge. And hosts who go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. My 2 adult sisters and I stayed here a week in mid June. Mornings on the deck drinking coffee gazing out at the water, low tides spent combing the rocks for shells and such. AMAZING sunsets from the deck while enjoying a bottle of wine. Very quiet and forested, cottages here are not elbow to elbow! A quick trip to MDI and all it's sights and activities. We would not hesitate to book with Bill and Ruth again. The map that pinpoints where the cabin is, at least on this site, is not correct. It is not near Hwy 3 and the small airport, it is just West of Trenton on Union river bay, a very quick trip onto MDI. We loved being off Island, way less traffic. Get your Lobster already cooked at Trenton lobster pound, grab your wine, and have a beautiful evening on the deck. Beautiful place to stay.

Portage Lake Camp, Aroostook County, Maine

Portage cottage

4 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 8

“Great experience in fantastic cabin” My family (of 8) stayed there for 4 nights in July '12 for my wedding. The cabin was a lot bigger than I was expecting. There are two bedrooms (each bedroom has a queen or king size bed) downstairs as well as two bedrooms upstairs (each of these bedrooms has 3 twin size beds). The downstairs also has a living room and a large wrap around screened-in porch - as well as a back porch that is not screened in. There were kayaks, float mats, games, etc... to play with. The only real downside is that there is only one bathroom. The cabin is right on the lake and is less "rustic" than the other cabins my family/friends rented for the wedding. This one was by far the nicest in terms of being a little bit more modern. The owner was also very easy to work with. The last night I only had 6 of my family stay there and the owner was nice enough to reimburse me for that charge. I would recommend this cabin for those wanting a nice cabin on the lake.

Log Cabin in the Best Town on Mt. Desert Island

Southwest Harbor log cabin

3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“Comfortable home in a peaceful location” This was the first time our family visited Maine and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The cabin is located in a lovely, private, quiet area. When we inquired about the availability of the cabin the owners, Mike and Dee, responded in a timely fashion. They were kind and considerate. This is evident in the details and care they have taken with their home. The kitchen was so well equipped, we could try our hand at everything from baking popovers to cooking a lobster dinner. The proximity to Echo Lake and the short drive to the hiking trails made the cabin's location all the more convenient. Our kids loved the rope hammock on the deck and we all loved walking to Little Notch bakery in the morning for fresh baked goods and wild blueberry pie! The owners also had a large portfolio filled with recommendations for area restaurants and places to visit. This was really helpful for getting to know the area. We hope to stay here again very soon.

“Went White Water Rafting,Kayaking and the Skowegan State fair” We had a great time, We went to Crab apple White Water Rafting, there are other rafting companies around but they are the best! We used the two tandem Kayaks they had at the house and went down the Kennebec River 7.5 miles it was great, went on the rope swing over the Kennebec and all. The house was great there was 5 adults and 3 kids, had fun with the fire pit in the front yard, gas grill on the farmers porch plenty of space. We all had a amazing time, and the star gazing was pretty awesome as well. we went into town and played basketball at the courts right behind the Irving's gas stations and the police dept. We went to the wonderful library in town as well, and went into Farmington, for movies, kid pool and wonderful consignment shops and restaurants. I thought the owners went above and beyond they left us smoare's fixings for the kids, flashlights, and wood for the fire pit. the two tandem kayaks for use was awesome we did not have to rent them! House was very clean, and was easy enough to pay through pay pal and key was in lock box at house. Location: off the beating path but well worth the solitude and no noise, no traffic, no neighbors. kids caught fire flies, camp stories, and sang songs around the camp fire. I would recommend this home to our friends and families. all the necessities of home except a dishwasher. we did drive to sugarloaf for a moose safari and played golf. tons of local places to go fishing as well and swim a short drive from the house.

Cedar Log Cabin in Boothbay Harbor, Maine

Boothbay Harbor log cabin

3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 5

“The best log cabin you would ever want to stay in.” We adored our stay in this log cabin. It was truly comfortable. Much to our liking, was the living and kitchen area with its high ceilings. (The kitchen was well-equipped with the necessary dishes, pots and pans and a variety of coffee makers.) The loft had both a sleeping and sitting area, which was greatly appreciated by all our visitors as were also the other two bedrooms. The cabin is well-decorated (nautical style and colors), well-lighted and had the necessary gas stove, electric heaters, air-conditioning and ceiling fans for whatever kind of weather was on hand during our stay. We especially liked the screened-in porch where we took our morning coffee and often had dinner out there, too. The cabin was within walking distance of the village with its shops and restaurants. We loved walking down to Barrett Park, which was only 5 minutes away. Lovely view. The service was impeccable. Mrs. Taylor saw to everything and kept in touch regularly to see if all was fine. Even the cleaning lady saw to all our needs. We have rented many cottages in the past, but have never liked one of them as much as we have liked this one, and I would never hesitate to rent it again. Thank you Yuko and Dave Taylor for all your efforts in making our stay so special.

Condo by Perkins Cove

Ogunquit apartment

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Nice Getaway” My family has been vacationing in Maine for many years and we love Ogunquit. Unfortunately the last 3 years we were unable to get to Maine and were missing it terribly. I found this rental online and was excited that the price was right and we were able to come back to where we love. The place was cute, perfect for us and the location was great - we enjoy walking and it was the perfect distance. Dave was awesome to deal with and we'd love to come back next year! Thanks!
