Additional Location Information

Manarola is the second village of Cinque Terre coming from south. Ancient village of East Liguria, it’s an hamlet of the municipality of Riomaggiore. The village stands between the sea and the Appennine Mt.: the multicolored houses are a characteristic feature. The center of the village runs along the central street “Via Discovolo”, created with the covering of a stream: from Via Discovolo depart several “carruggi” linked to the main road with typical slate flight of steps.
A visit to Manarola includes several cultural and natural sights: the first one is the area before the village where there is the main square of Manarola. Around it there are the Oratorio dei Disciplinati, the Torre Campanaria and the Church of San Lorenzo (14th cent.). Still visible, despite it has been transformed in a private house, is the Manarola Castle: in Via del Baluardo you can see its main entrance. A wonderful view about the village is from Punta Bonfiglio, linked to the Marina by a nice walking: on the highest part of Punta Bonfiglio there is the local Cemetery. Another observation point on Manarola is the final part of Via Belvedere: this is a wonderful “balcony” just over the sea.
