We just stayed for our third time at La Lampara (and this year rented a sister property to accommodated the extended family) and have already made reservations to return next year. The Cinque Terra Riviera people are friendly and responsive...and we love this villa!!!
If you are looking for western-luxury accommodations this is not for you. If you are looking for a comfortable retreat that will thrill your senses with history, view and convenience you won't be disappointed.
At first western travelers might think the hike up the hill is demanding or the rooms are a bit small but the moment you take the magical spiral staircase up to the living area and step out onto the terrace you know you are in for a sensory retreat like no others. You will spend most of your time here enjoying breakfast with the cool morning breeze, and later dining as the sun sets on the sea and the moon rises over the Mediterranean...talk about "Moon glades?" Then fall asleep to star lit skies over the sea while listening to the waves gently lap upon the breaker below while a gentle cool breeze drifts in. Wake up to the same and start the dream all over again.
Having a washing machine was especially welcome after hiking the grape vine covered trails each day. And air-drying the clothes on the terrace resulted is wonderfully fresh and bright clothes.
Ok, there is an occasional ant issue (especially if you leave crumbs) but a quick ant spray around the terrace and they go bother someone else. Never noticed any bad odors.
If you are looking to relax and enjoy unprecedented seaside views in a quiet villa managed by a kind and trusting agency, La Lampara is for you.

The view from the balcony in this apartment is spectacular. On glorious evenings it was magical to sit out there and sip delicious cinque terre wine as the sun went down. Unfortunately we had very few sunny days and most evenings/nights brought thunderstorms and heavy rain.
Accomodation in the apartment was quite basic, small cramped bedrooms, one bathroom and a kitchen cum living area that was obviously not intended for sitting in! On a positive note beds were clean and comfortable.

I stayed at "La Lampara" the first week of august 2010 and would like to have stayed forever. I went to sleep and woke up with the sound and smell of the sea; every room having a spectacular view of the water and the beautiful coast of the Cinque Terre. The terrace is about 20 feet long and 10 feet deep with such a hypnotic view of the sea that you will never want to leave the apartment. The sunsets are beautiful and the night sky is thick with stars that stretch down to the horizon seeming to dip into the water.
I swam in Manarola on the calm days, and when the sea was rough I took a train to Monterosso which has a nice sandy beach. Manarola does not have a lot of shops, but La Spezia is only 15 minutes away by train and there are large grocery stores there. The days you don't want to cook I would recommend the restaurant Ciak in Monterosso which has an amazing Pasta al Pesto. I would say that the apartment is perfect for a single person, a couple or a couple with two children. The tiny spiral staircase connecting the two floors is a bit tight, and would not be ideal for small children. The bathroom is very modern, and I always had plenty of hot water. The kitchen although small has everything you need, and is very functional with 4 gas burners, an oven, and a dorm like fridge.
Filippo was my contact person and he was great; always patiently answering my many questions as well as meeting me at the train station with the keys to the apartment. He speaks perfect English and will help with anything during your stay at La Lampara. I look forward to renting La Lampara again and would definitely recommend this apartment to friends.
