“100% recommendable!” We tremendously enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was as promised, remote (but not very difficult to get to) , isolated from the daily assault of internet and cell phone services and surrounded by 100% beautiful nature with the Chinati mountains to north and the Sierra Madre to the south, both of which could be enjoyed in a panorama view from the spacious balcony. As for the cabin, don’t expect the sterility of a commercial rental. This is more like your best friend handed over the key to his cabin. We found the cabin clean and cosy and little by little discovered some gems on the bookshelves and in the CD rack. The bed was very comfortable and kept us warm even during cold winter nights. The wood stove kept the cabin warm during the day. Across the road is a simple resort called variously Chinati or Ruidosa Hot Springs. For $15 a person you can get a day pass with access to the “communal pool”, which has about as much charm as a fitness club hot tub, only it is not really hot but lukewarm. We did not bother. Hiking along the road rewards you with some spectacular views and the cabin itself has a cute winding trail of about 1 mile, which starts on the north side of the house (walk in the direction of the fence). All other roads and trails are private and unfortunately, there is no public access to the Rio Grande/Bravo anywhere close. So mostly, you get to enjoy the cabin, which was fine by us. 100% recommendable!

Chinati Hot Springs Cabin
Exactly what I was looking for

I wanted to stay in an area away from people, have a great experience and still feel safe... sometimes I can talk a friend into coming along on one of my little adventures and sometimes I'm a middle-aged lady on my own. The cabin was great and I would have felt safe even if I had been by myself. Watching the sun set behind the mountains from the deck with a piñon wood fire going was awesome. Stargazing was unbelievable! The quiet of the desert was soothing to the soul. Full kitchen with everything that you would need to prep and cook full meals. Outdoor shower, outdoor cooking capabilities. Queen bed upstairs very comfortable. Indoor bathroom (no shower). And cabin is clean, has air conditioning, nice BOSE stereo to listen to interesting music (recommend the Old Californio "Westering Again" CD), interesting artwork and books to peruse if you are inclined. This isn't roughing it by any stretch of the imagination, unless you are "a rugged indoorsman." Be sure to read all of the information posted about the cabin so that you can determine if it's right for you.see more
