Additional Location Information

Margate is a seaside town in the county of Kent which is also known as 'the Garden of England'. It's located in the district of Thanet in east Kent and lies 38 miles east-northeast of Maidstone, on the coast along the North Foreland, and contains the areas of Cliftonville, Garlinge, Palm Bay and Westbrook. Margate experiences an oceanic climate similar to almost all of the United Kingdom, though its annual precipitation is lower than the national average.

For at least 250 years, the town has been a leading seaside resort in the UK, drawing Londoners to its long clean golden sand beaches, with Marine Terrace running along Margate Main Sands from the Lifeboat Memorial to the Harbour Arm where the new Turner Contemporary Gallery is located, built on the site of the artist JMW Turner's holiday home. The village of Broadstairs, where Charles Dickens lived, is nearby, and there is a very pleasant Dickens - Turner walk clearly signposted between Margate and Broadstairs, taking you to some of the favourite haunts of these two giants of the artistic and literary world.

The flat is on local bus and cycle routes with Margate train station three minutes walk away for fast trains to London, and to Ramsgate and Dover for ferries to mainland Europe. Historic Dreamland Amusement Park with its Scenic Roller coaster and Cinema is next door, soon to re-open after restoration, and Canterbury with its magnificent cathedral is a short distance away by road or rail. Margate has many restaurants and pubs, and we can personally recommend the cafe at the Shell Grotto for tea & cakes and the restaurant at the Turner Contemporary Gallery for fine dining, after which we suggest returning to the flat for a cosy nightcap while watching the magnificent views.
The flat is located in a quiet residential block, therefore we ask that you respect the other residents and keep the noise levels down after 11pm. Feeding the seagulls from within the flat is prohibited by the building management as is smoking either within the flat or anywhere on the premises, but note that there is a large covered beach shelter just across the road where you can puff away as much as you like.
